Goodbye, My Beloved Alpha Chapter 05

Goodbye, My Beloved Alpha Chapter 05

I stared at the new marriage certificate in my hand.

Years ago, I’d imagine mine would have my picture next to Silas’s.

Now, it was Lucas.

He’d talked me into it last night. A sham, he’d said. Just to get my family off his back.

He took the certificate. “I’ll show my parents. Then my mom will stop thinking I’m lying.”

It all felt unreal.

Three years ago, I’d had a huge wedding. All ceremony. No paperwork.

Now I had the paperwork. No ceremony.

It felt better. No expectations. No disappointments.

Lucas went to show his parents. He came back with good news.

“They want an exhibition. My best work.”

A month later, Lucas’s exhibition opened.

I was working late. Didn’t arrive until almost eight.

Entering, I saw a man from behind. He looked like Silas.

My imagination.

The gallery was full of paintings I recognized.

A group of women hurried past, holding collector’s books.

‘Hurry, he is up front. We need his signature.”

“I heard this is his last show. If we miss it.”

I followed their gaze.

Lucas stood a head above the crowd, signing. Patient

His last show? I looked around, found the info board near the entrance

He was already famous. His work had toured. Sold for insane prices.

I stood there, suddenly adrift

The Lucas in the bio didn’t sound like the man who complained about my cooking.

I slipped out

I saw Silas on the sidewalk, frowning at his phone

So it hadn’t been my imagination.
