Ghosted My Onlinemate Chapter 02

Ghosted My Onlinemate Chapter 02

The next day, Elias and Yvette’s relationship spread through campus like wildfire.

The second class let out, Yvette rushed to the training grounds to find Elias during the break.

I forced myself to focus on the combat drills we’d just learned, but their voices wormed into my ears anyway.

Yvette punched his chest, her fist bouncing uselessly off solid muscle.

He let out a low hum, half-amused, and tightened his grip on her hand.

Then came the slick, wet sound of a deep kiss.

My fists clenched so hard my knuckles ached.

The next second, a sharp pain exploded across my forehead. I cried out.

A crushed soda can clattered to the ground at my feet.

Levi Stirling didn’t even try to hide his smug grin. “Oops.”

He jerked his chin toward the trash can beside me.

I knew he did it on purpose.

On this path, an Omega like me was an anomaly.

“Who’s that?” Yvette finally noticed the commotion, her attention drifting.

Elias’s gaze followed hers and landed on me. My lungs forgot how to work.

“Nobody,” Elias said coldly.

Then his voice cracked down like a whip. “Levi. Enough.”

Levi met the eyes of his future Alpha, shrugged with practiced indifference, and stepped back.

“Fine.”

He shot me one last glare before walking away.

Elias tilted Yvette’s chin up. “Don’t waste your attention on other people.”

I picked up the can and tossed it in the trash.

I barely survived until nightfall.

Back home, I pulled out my phone and stared at the anonymous app.

I was going to delete it.

But when my fingertip touched the screen, it opened the app instead.

Fine. One last time.

The next second, the account that should have been deactivated lit up with several new messages.

[Changed my mind. Keeping this account. What if I need you again someday?]

[Why didn’t you accept the transfer?]

[Don’t be shy. We’ve known each other long enough. I think of you as a real friend.]

And one that had just come in:

[How come you haven’t been online in days?]

[Sia? You there? Got an emergency. Need my best girl.]

Sia. My username.

Reading those messages, I couldn’t help imagining Elias saying them out loud.

I shook my head and forced myself to snap out of it.

Elias had a girlfriend now. It was time to let go.

I shoved the phone under my pillow.

Rolled over. Closed my eyes.

Couldn’t sleep.

The phone buzzed again.

After a long hesitation, I checked the screen.

[Seriously? Read and no reply?]

[You’re cruel, Sia.]

[Guess I lost my best strategist. Damn.]

I took a deep breath and typed back:

[Been busy lately.]

[What happened?]

Elias replied almost instantly.

[Something awesome happened today, but I’ll tell you about it later.]

Then a pause.

[Here’s the thing.]

[Her birthday’s coming up. What do you think makes a good gift for a girl?]

[I want to surprise her.]

I stared at the screen.

A sudden wave of exhaustion hit me.

[Sorry, Sia. I know you’re busy, but I don’t have any close female friends I can ask. And I’ve never been in a relationship before. Zero experience.]

I knew that. Back in middle school, Elias had been so disinterested in girls that the entire school questioned his orientation. At that age, most guys had at least some experience.

I stared at the screen, typed a few words, deleted them.

Finally sent one line:

[See what she’s been into lately.]

[Hmm, she’s been looking at lipstick recently. Any recommendations?]

After that, Elias sent over a dozen photos.

I recognized the brands.

They were expensive.

A single tube cost more than my entire monthly allowance.

I pressed my lips together.

Finally, I sent:

[Not really my area. You could try browsing Pinterest or something.]

Sent.

I muted my phone and shoved it under the pillow.

This time, I didn’t take it back out.

Noon.

Before heading to the cafeteria, I stopped by the convenience store.

At the refrigerator, I spotted the last bottle of peach yogurt.

I’d never cared for the flavor before.

But because Elias liked it, I’d tried it. Now I loved it too.

I’d just reached for it when another hand appeared beside mine.

Long fingers, defined knuckles, effortlessly attractive, with a small red mole on the index finger.

My heartbeat spiked.

Elias.

He seemed to sense my heart trying to hammer its way out of my chest.

Those green eyes fixed on me, one brow slightly raised.
