From OT To Wheelchair: He Cried When I Boarded Chapter 04

Paralyzed from the waist down, I couldn’t move to dodge. The slap caught me full in the face.

The medical staff gasped. I fell out of the wheelchair and hit my head on the floor. Blood started pooling beneath me.

Julian sneered.

“I read the files you sent me.”

I looked up at him.

“But why…”

Tears welled in my eyes, the pain in my heart deepening with every beat.

“Those files almost had me fooled. For a second, I actually thought maybe Chloe set you up. But then…”

He pulled out a pill bottle and threw it at me.

“Chloe found this in your bag! So tell me—why the hell do you have these?”

My eyes widened in shock.

“Mr. Sterling, you’ve misunderstood! This is…”

Sarah tried to explain, but Julian kicked her hard. She doubled over, gasping.

Seeing him raise his foot again, I screamed and threw myself forward to cover her.

Julian didn’t hesitate. He brought his boot down on my shattered pelvis. Once. Twice. Again.

Cold sweat drenched me instantly. My vision went black from the agony.

Julian grabbed my chin, forcing me to look at him.

“Zoe, you played me good. Acting all pure and innocent. I chased you for a whole year and you wouldn’t even let me touch you. I thought you were different.”

“Turns out you’re dirtier than anyone I know. You’re worse than some cheap whore off the street.”

“I couldn’t figure out how some ointment could infect Chloe that bad. Now I know—you used your own infected shit on her! And then you tried to push her down the stairs!”

“I didn’t…” I forced the words out through gritted teeth.

I looked up at him, pleading. “The medicine is…”

“Enough!” Julian roared. “Still lying to my face?! I’m done listening to your bullshit!”

He shoved me back down.

“Before, I thought you just gave Chloe bad medicine out of jealousy. Faked some test results because I missed our party.”

“I went easy on you. I just wanted to scare you, make Chloe feel better.”

“But you’re disgusting. You’re fucking vile. I’m done with you.”

Julian stared at me for a long moment, then looked away.

“We’re done. I won’t marry someone like you.”

I closed my eyes and whispered, “Okay.”

He clenched his fists, his voice dropping to freezing.

“Think I’ll just let you walk away?”

“Chloe wants you to feel what she felt. That guy who wanted you? He’s here. I’m handing you over.”

“Time to pay, Zoe.”

He glared at me, expecting terror.

He wanted to see me break down—sobbing, begging on my knees.

But I just lay there, numb, and closed my eyes.

“Bitch!” Julian cursed, then slammed the door as he left.

A few minutes later, the door opened again.

Hope surged through me. I looked up through my tears.

“Ethan, you came…”

But it wasn’t him.

Several men stood there, their skin sallow and covered in sores. The smell hit me—rot and disease.

Chloe followed behind them.

I screamed, tried to crawl back. But I couldn’t move. My legs—useless. My wrist—shattered..

Chloe looked at my pathetic state and laughed.

“Look at you. Pathetic. You actually thought you could compete with me for Julian? Go to hell.”

“Bet you didn’t know this. I’m Julian’s first love. He took a brutal beating from his father just to be with me. Even when his dad broke his legs, he wouldn’t give me up.”

“You think he loved you? He didn’t. His dad wouldn’t let him bring me back unless he married someone first. So he went through thousands of girls. And picked you.”

Her eyes gleamed with malice.

“Want to know why he picked you? Your silhouette. It looks just like mine. He told me that in the dark, fucking you feels exactly like fucking me.”

My chest seized violently. The tears I’d been holding back broke free.

I remembered our first time together. I’d accidentally turned on the lamp.

His face changed. He pulled away immediately and locked himself in the bathroom.

When he came back, he held me awkwardly.

“Sorry, baby. First time… I’m just nervous.”

At the time, I thought it was sweet. I thought he was just emotionally reserved.

I never imagined this was why.

Chloe saw my face go white. She clapped her hands, delighted.

“Do your job. I want her ruined. Completely ruined—so disgusting Julian can’t even look at her.”

The ward door locked from the outside.

…

Next door, Julian sat listening.

My screams came through the wall. His hand clenched.

A pair of soft hands held his fist.

“Julian, relax. I told them to just scare her. Once she passes out, we’ll get her treated.”

Julian hummed softly, then pulled her close and kissed her forehead.

“Thank you for being willing to forgive her, Chloe.”

His eyes were full of tenderness as he spoke.

“I do love her. I want her as my wife. But she won’t accept you. Don’t worry—I’ll send her somewhere to… fix that.”

A sinister glint flashed in Chloe’s eyes as she pressed her lips against his.

“So while Zoe’s gone… keep me company?”

Just as their lips met, a massive crash came from next door.

From outside, countless screams erupted.

“Dr. Reynolds jumped!”
