From Now On, It’s Not About You Chapter 06

Something inside Ryan shattered.

The world around him went silent.

He stood by the river in stunned silence, his eyes fixed on the rushing water.

Then, without warning, he lunged at the rescue workers.

“No! She’s not dead!”

“She promised me-we were going to complete our bond. She would never abandon me.”

“Please, go back in and find her.”

“She’s scared of the dark. The water’s freezing. She’s waiting for me somewhere.”

The force of his panic nearly knocked one of them over.

It took several people to restrain him.

Ryan completely lost control. He collapsed to his knees, sobbing.

“Save my little Phoebe-please, save her. I can’t live without her…

At that moment, every happy memory came flooding back.

Her smile. Her tears. The promises he’d made. The vows that he would love her forever.

All of it shattered into pieces he could no longer hold.

He lay crumpled on the ground in unbearable agony, broken, crying until he could barely breathe.

Just then, a figure stopped in front of him. Hope exploded inside his chest. Ryan looked up.

The next second, a powerful kick sent him flying several feet.

It was Ethan. The man who’d once shown him the utmost respect now couldn’t care less that Ryan

was the future Alpha.

Veins bulged across the back of his clenched fists.

“What did you promise me?” His voice shook with rage.

“You swore you’d protect her, care for her, and never let anyone bully her.”

“That’s the only reason I agreed to let you two be together.”

The angrier he became, the harder he kicked Ryan again.

“This is your protection? This is how you cared for her?”

“Because of you, the entire internet humiliated my daughter.”

“Because of you, they drove her to her death.”

“Ryan-you killed my daughter!”

“How dare you stand here putting on this act of devotion? Get the hell out of my sight!”

Ryan crawled forward through his tears.

“Ethan, I can’t leave. I have to wait for Phoebe.”

“She’s alive. I know she’s alive.”

Ethan squeezed his eyes shut, his voice trembling.

“Don’t think I know nothing.”

“Where did Phoebe’s guaranteed spot at Silver Moon Academy go?”

“Why did those people chase her all the way to the river?”

“If you have even a shred of conscience left, go find the truth and give my Phoebe justice.”

“My Phoebe was so good, so kind-how dare any of you do this to her!”

By the end, his chest heaved. His eyes were blood-red.

He didn’t spare Ryan another glance.

He turned and walked away. As though staying one second longer would stain him.

Nobody knew how much time passed.

Eventually, Ryan wiped the tears from his face.

When he stood again, nothing remained in his eyes except cold, violent fury.

By the time he returned to the hospital, Willow was lounging on her bed, phone on speaker, a bag of chips within easy reach.

She laughed brightly. The satisfaction in her voice was impossible to hide.

“So she really drove into the river?”

“Good thing those paid trolls I hired came through.”

“Just pretended to be some radical netizens chasing her down and, bam, Phoebe was taken care of,

easy peasy.”

The person on the other end sounded uneasy.

“You faked your own nudes to frame Phoebe, then swiped Ryan’s phone and leaked that intimate

video of them to the entire internet.”

“Ryan doesn’t know any of this, does he?”

“They’ve been together for ten years. Aren’t you scared he’ll come after you if he finds out?”

Willow scoffed. “Oh, please.”

“Ten years together? If they were really that in love, there wouldn’t have been room for me in the first place.”

“Believe me, even if Ryan finds out everything, all I’d have to do is shed a couple of tears and he’d

be on his knees wiping them for me.”

“Men are just cheap like that-never cherish what they have, always obsessing over what they’ve lost.”

“I’m not some idiot like Phoebe, living for love and fairy tales.”

“I seduced Ryan because I wanted to climb higher.”

“Now that Phoebe’s dead, I just need to keep Ryan happy in bed, and I’ll be set for life.”

She laughed. “That Silver Moon Academy spot? That stupid star necklace?”

“I never gave a damn about them. I only took them to mess with Phoebe.”

“Why should she have it all-better family, prettier face?”

“I wanted to watch her lose everything.”

“I wanted her to go to the hell!”
