From Grieving Mother to Mafia Queen Chapter 09: “I am Serafina Hart”

I didn’t give Vincent room to breathe.

With me calling the shots, the Harts swallowed up every bit of Corleone turf and business.

Between his cheating, his stupidity, and the family falling apart, the Corleone elders voted him out. Gone. Banished.

“Vincent’s done,” they announced. “He’s an embarrassment to the whole underworld.”

Everyone ditched him. So he hit the bottle.

He roamed the streets like a homeless guy, selling whatever he could for booze. Hair a mess. Beard a jungle.

Every time he saw a family with a kid, he’d lose it and scream his son’s name.

“Sonny… my boy… Daddy’s so sorry…”

People crossed the street to avoid the crazy ex-mob boss.

His old crew had bailed. Nobody gave a damn. He crashed in a broken-down warehouse, living on garbage.

Sometimes he’d stand outside the Hart estate gates, staring through the bars.

“Serafina… please come back… I screwed up…” he’d cry at the empty driveway.

But I was long gone.

One freezing winter night, Vincent passed out drunk in an alley on the edge of town.

Same spot where he used to off his traitors.

“Hey, ain’t that the Corleone loser?” sneered a punk whose leg Vincent once broke. “The guy who let his side piece and her bastard kill his own kid. Now he gets what’s coming.”

Through the booze fog, Vincent saw the murderous looks.

“No… please…” He tried to crawl. His limbs were dead weight.

A dozen enemies swarmed him. Kicking. Stomping.

Vincent took his last, ugly breath. His eyes still had that longing for me.

Meanwhile, Sophia was still barely alive in the torture room.

Her legs were dead. She needed someone to feed her.

Cold. Damp. Rats and bugs were her only company.

“Help… anybody… help me…” she wailed every day. Her voice got weaker.

Nobody cared.

Her looks were gone. Hair fell out. Skin rotted.

She lasted three months in agony and madness before dying on a stormy night. Nobody claimed her body

As for Tommy, the slums chewed him up. Without Vincent’s name to protect him, he was just some kid.

“Your dad’s a loser!” other kids taunted. “Your mom’s a villain!”

Tommy got the crap beaten out of him daily. Nobody felt sorry for him.

Grown up? He scraped by with the worst jobs-loading docks, sweeping streets, hauling trash. Spent his whole life getting looked down on.

That’s what happens to traitors.

I folded the Corleone family into the Harts and became the new Godfather of the mafia underworld. After that, my power was bigger than anyone had ever seen. Everyone feared me. Nobody dared cross me.

I rewrote the rules of the underground. Tougher. Traitors got the worst. Liars got banished. Anyone who hurt a kid? Dead.

At Sonny’s grave, I put the flowers he’d waited too long for. White daisies-his favorite. Clean and innocent.

“Mommy paid them back, baby,” I whispered, touching his headstone. “The ones who hurt you? They paid.”

A soft breeze blew. Like Sonny answering.

Then Henrik walked up and dropped to one knee again.

“Serafina, marry me,” he said, dead serious. “I’ll love you, protect you, my whole life. Merge the Victors with the Harts, and we’ll rule the whole underground. Just us.”

He held out a huge sapphire ring. Sparkled like crazy.

I looked at this guy. Perfect bloodline. Massive power. A real heart.

But I slowly shook my head and gave a small smile.

“Henrik, I’m grateful. But the rest of my life? I belong to the Hart family and me. Nobody else. I’ve had love’s sweetness and betrayal’s poison. Now? I just want to be me. Protect my family. Protect the innocent.”

Henrik lowered his head. “I get it, Serafina. But if you ever change your mind… I’ll wait.”

‘I patted his shoulder. “You’ll find someone better.”

Henrik stood, gave me one last long look, then turned and walked away.

I stood alone at Sonny’s grave, watching the sky go dark. My heart was quiet.

The old pain faded. I was brand new.

Nobody would ever hurt me again. Nobody would ever betray me again.

Fam Serafina Hart

Because my heart belongs to me. Only me. Forever. I’m never giving it to anyone else.

Fate cut me a break. Gave me the guts to start over.

I’ll use those guts to protect more innocent people. Make sure they never walk my road.

This is my revenge. And my peace.

As the sun went down, I took one last look at Sonny’s stone.

“Mommy’s gonna build a better world now, baby. No betrayal. No pain. Wait for me.”

I turned and walked away. Didn’t look back. Behind me? The hurt of the past. Ahead? Endless possibilities.

I am Serafina Hart. Godfather of the Hart mafia empire. A woman reborn.

My legend? Just getting started.
