“Hannah Moretti, are you insane? Do you have any idea who that is?”

Dorian’s voice cracked across the ballroom.

His calm facade finally shattered. He scrambled down the steps, trying to drag me back.

Evander didn’t even look at him.

He simply rose to his feet, placing himself between me and Dorian.

The two bodyguards behind him instantly stepped forward, blocking Dorian’s path.

“Move!”

Dorian struggled against them, his eyes locked on me.

“Hannah, are you doing this just to piss me off? Is that what this is?”

“Do you think Mr. Hawthorne is some prop you can use in your little drama?”

“Apologize to him. Right now.”

He clearly expected Evander to explode.

Everyone knew Evander Hawthorne hated being used.

The entire ballroom had fallen silent, every guest waiting to see me thrown out.

Matt stood behind Dorian, a smug look on his face.

“You really picked the wrong guy this time, Hannah.”

“Mr. Hawthorne isn’t going to play your games.”

“If you apologize now, Dorian might still take you back.”

I ignored them all.

I just held my hand suspended in the air, my eyes fixed on Evander.

He was watching me, too.

His gaze was serious, as if he were weighing whether I was worth the trouble.

After a long moment, a low laugh rumbled in his chest.

He reached out and took my hand, his grip firm and warm.

“Alright.”

His palm enveloped mine.

“I do have an opening.”
