First-Class Vacation for His Parents? His Secretary Had Other Plans Chapter 02

Ryan raised his voice.

“I know exactly what your parents are like. They ask me for a million dollars every month.”

“They’re so damn greedy. I’m sick of them.”

“I’ve got enough problems at the company right now. I told them that. I asked them to try to understand what I’m dealing with.”

“Sure, they listened. But did they care? No.”

“What more do they expect from a son-in-law?”

He hung up.

I stared at my phone, baffled.

My parents had never asked him for money.

No one knew it, but my parents’ farm brought in just as much as we made every month, if not more.

So why would Ryan say that?

It made no sense.

But I couldn’t afford to dwell on it.

I needed to find out where Chloe had sent my in-laws.

I immediately called the tour coordinator in Valdoria.

“Hi, have my in-laws arrived yet?”

The coordinator sounded as confused as I was.

“Ms. Bennett, your in-laws already canceled their trip with us.”

“They said the trip was too expensive, especially the ultra-luxury hotels.”

“Their friends even asked why they were pinching pennies when their son and daughter-in-law were so wealthy.”

“What? They’re not coming?”

“But we never canceled their trip!”

I ended the call and hurried to contact my mother-in-law’s friends.

They’d signed up for the trip with my in-laws. Surely they’d know what had happened.

But they told me the same thing: my in-laws had canceled their Valdoria trip at the last minute.

I was stunned.

If they hadn’t gone to Valdoria, where were they?

I tried both their phones. Neither call went through.

Then I called Chloe.

“Chloe, where did you send my in-laws?”

“Where else? Where they belong.”

Anger flared in my chest.

“Where is that? Why didn’t you tell us?”

“Were you the one who canceled their trip to Valdoria?”

Chloe gave a cold laugh.

“Yes, I canceled it.”

“There’s been a problem with the company’s accounts, and what do your parents do?”

“Keep throwing Mr. Carter’s money around.”

“Why should I be nice to people like that?”

“They’re from the country. They can’t be that delicate.”

With every word, my unease grew.

“Where did you send them?”

“Oh, it’s actually quite nice. Fresh air. It’s the middle of nowhere, but there’s wild fruit, edible plants, even wild animals.”

My breath caught, dread tightening in my chest.

“You didn’t send my in-laws into a forest, did you?”

Chloe slapped her thigh and burst out laughing.

“Not just any forest. The wilderness. Remote, untouched forest.”

“A hundred bucks is plenty for water before they go in. And there’s no admission fee. They can stay as long as they like.”

“I just saved Mr. Carter a million dollars.”

“I’ve done a good deed. You should be thanking me.”

“Consider it a warning for your parents, too. Just because their daughter married into the Carter family doesn’t mean they can keep bleeding Mr. Carter dry.”

“Wait.”

“The trip to Valdoria wasn’t for my parents. It was for Mr. Carter’s parents.”

“Oh, please. If his parents wanted a vacation, they wouldn’t need to go through you.”

“Stop making excuses.”

“If you really cared about Mr. Carter, you’d set your parents straight.”

“Tell them to behave and stop dreaming up ways to get their hands on his money.”
