I looked at my secretary. “Why did it change?”

She explained, “They were acquired by Cartwright Group earlier this year. So the current CEO is Ryan.”

I clicked my tongue. Waved her off. She read the room and slipped out.

Not exactly annoyance.

More like… a hassle.

Especially dealing with someone as shameless as Ryan.

I opened WhatsApp. Sent Tommy a voice note. “Tommy, don’t bother with the ticket.”

“I’m flying back to New York tonight.”

My secretary accompanied me on the flight back.

The moment we landed, she guided me toward the exit.

Found the liaison.

“Hailey, we’re staying at the partner–arranged hotel tonight.”

“Tomorrow’s meeting is at ten a.m.”

“Product selection starts after the meeting. Expected to finish by five p.m. Shall I book your return ticket in advance?”

I climbed into the Uber Black. Pulled my cap down over my face.

“No need.”

Whatever loose ends were left, I’d settle them all at once.

Five–star suite hotel.

One room for me. One for my secretary.

“The suite hos multiple beds anyway,” she muttered. “Booking sedorate rooms. Such a waste of money!”

swised my key card. Opened the door.

Didn’t bother with the lights. Dropped my bag at the entryway Bent down to take off my heels.

A sudden force wrapped around my waist.

I lost my balance. Slammed into a solid chest.

The familiar scent. Atlantic cedar.

“Hailey… were you planning to never come back…”

His voice was wrecked

The strength in his arms was brutal. Like he wanted to cust

me into his bones. Locking me against him.

“Hailey, I miss you.”

“I miss you so much.”

I didn’t have the energy to fight.

Over a dozen hours in the air. Straight to the hotel offer landing.

My heels had rubbed my skin raw. My whole body felt like it had been taken apart and thrown back together.

“Let go.”

“No.”

“Ryan. I’m counting to three.”

“Count to a hundred. I’m not letting go.”
