Drowning in Love Chapter 10

Drowning in Love Chapter 10

Travis was perfect in every way, except he liked to lock his feelings in a vault.

I was debating whether I should try to get him to open up.

Then, out of nowhere, he asked in that husky, impossibly charming voice, “Anna, are you happy being married to me?”

I actually took a second to weigh it.

It wasn’t bad. A penthouse. A handsome, wealthy husband. Someone else always picking up the bill.

And honestly, I was more than satisfied with Travis himself.

Of course, it would’ve been even nicer if he could tone it down a little in bed.

But my silence sounded like hesitation to him.

He brushed a light kiss over the red mark on my neck and murmured, almost to himself, “I’m so happy. I never thought I’d actually get to marry you.”

Then his voice turned quiet and careful. “I also know that if one of us starts feeling suffocated, this marriage turns into a gilded cage. I don’t want to be the thing that traps you.”

He looked me straight in the eye and said my full name, serious. “Anna, if you need to breathe, I can let you go.”

It hit me then. To Travis, this marriage wasn’t something he’d won. It felt like something he’d stolen.

And the finality in his tone told me everything.

I flipped over sharply. “You saw the divorce agreement, didn’t you?”

Travis pressed his lips together. Damp strands of hair fell over his forehead.

That wounded look showed up again.

“That was drafted by my lawyer when I was angry,” he said. “I changed my mind a long time ago.”

“Why were you angry?”

Travis’s priorities were always hilariously off.

Embarrassed and annoyed, I poked his rock-hard abs. “You seriously have to ask? You went six months after our wedding acting like I didn’t exist.

“When a man has no reaction to a woman, what else is she supposed to think? Disgust? I thought you were using me as a replacement for my sister. Don’t I have the right to be mad?

“And don’t think I’ll cling to you just because you’ve got a Hollywood face. There are plenty of hot young guys in New York. If I actually dumped you-”

My words were cut off by a hard, urgent kiss.

Travis’s breathing turned rough. His arms locked around me like steel.

“My fault,” he rasped. “Don’t say things like that.”

He pressed his forehead to mine, then swallowed. “I’ve never liked your sister. I didn’t touch you only because…”

He looked away, awkward, refusing to meet my eyes. “I have a… sex addiction problem. A habit. I’m afraid I’ll lose control and hurt you.”

Seeing him like that, most of my anger drained away.

The domineering CEO outside was a clingy, oversized puppy at home.

I ruffled his hair and decided to cut straight to it. “Travis, have you been in love with me this whole time?”

To my surprise, he didn’t panic at being caught.

He let out a relieved breath. “You finally figured it out. Guess my acting wasn’t exactly Oscar-worthy.”

I was speechless.

He’d been so convincing. If it weren’t for that secret account, we really would’ve split up.

But I decided to keep it to myself. Travis looked way too happy right now.

He kept smothering me with clingy kisses, trying to carry me toward the bathroom.

“I thought you wanted a divorce because I was terrible last night,” he said quickly. “I’ve been thinking about it. Let me try again.”
