Divorced & Dying The Mafia Boss Regrets Everything Chapter 16

They mobilized everyone they could, digging through all of New York, but they found no sign of Grace.

She had never left the city She was just barely surviving in a bare, unfurnished rental apartment in Brooklyn.

Sometimes she would close her eyes at dusk and open them again at dusk. The constant fever and delirium made her lose track of time. Whenever she woke up, she scratched a mark on the wall.

Actually, someone knew she was there.

Liam showed up every day on time with nutritious porridge and painkillers. At first, he begged her to leave with him. Eventually, Grace got fed up and said if he kept it up, she’d make sure he couldn’t find her

tomorrow. Liam shut up.

Despite the language barrier, they sometimes had good conversations–or rather, Liam did all the talking in

his broken English, and Grace listened quietly, smiling now and then.

But she couldn’t bring herself to be rude to the foreigner. Every time she saw his puppy dog eyes, she

couldn’t say anything harsh.

The door opened on time. Grace lifted her eyelids, glanced, and closed them again.

“Finnegan, you’re a grandfather now. I hear it’s a little girl.”

Grace smiled for the first time in a long while. Liam stood there, mesmerized.

“Good. I’ve been waiting for this.”

Grace didn’t think of herself as a good person. She couldn’t bring herself to donate all the money she had fought half her life for to some charity. And she happened to owe Finnegan a favor.

The Finnegans had a new life, and she was about to be buried. From a certain angle, it was a kind of fate.

So her big gift was everything she owned: all her assets.

Liam was stunned when he saw the agreement. He asked if it was worth it. Grace calmly took her medicine and said there was no question of worth. She couldn’t take it with her. She would never have children, so this at least fulfilled one wish.

“What about me?”

Here it came.

Grace’s mouth stiffened for a moment, then she smiled even more broadly, playing dumb as she offered her heartfelt blessing. “Then I wish you a bright future, Mr. Liam. May you find true love soon and maybe even father a football team.”

Liam looked bitter. “You know that’s not what I meant.”

Grace was laughing when a headache struck. Her face twisted in pain, and she turned to the side. Liam rushed over in panic, but Grace pressed a hand to his chest and pushed him away. “I’m fine.”

She said it, but deep down she knew she didn’t have long.

When the pain subsided, she grabbed his sleeve and pulled him close. Her lips trembled. “Help me… give the contract to Finnegan.”

Liam lifted her gently, laid her on the bed, and said softly, “Grace, you do it yourself.”

“I can’t help you with that.”

Grace forced her eyes open despite the pain and looked at him, wanting to speak but holding back. Finally,

she sighed. “Then contact Henry for me–my secretary.”

Liam’s eyes showed his anxiety. He buried his face in her arm and turned away without speaking.

Grace didn’t look at him either. She murmured to herself, “Why is it so hard to get you to do something?”

The moment the words left her mouth, a warm, soft touch pressed against her neck. Blond hair brushed against her as the heat of fever subsided, though her breath still burned.

Grace wasn’t unaware of what he wanted. She just couldn’t give it, and she shouldn’t.

She couldn’t die and leave behind false hope. That wouldn’t be right. She didn’t want to become another

Dominic.

But Grace never expected that after she contacted Henry and sent the agreement, only two days later, Finnegan would show up at her door with his granddaughter in his arms.

“Cough… cough…”

Grace coughed so hard she thought her lungs would burst. Her head was splitting, and she was both furious

and frantic.

“Finnegan, what’s wrong with you? Bringing a newborn baby to a place like this…”
