Changing My Flight, I Canceled the Toxic Family Forever Chapter 09

Changing My Flight, I Canceled the Toxic Family Forever Chapter 09

The big screen didn’t play the footage my parents had collected of me studying hard.

Instead, it showed a clip from the day I discovered the secret in the milk.

It showed me losing my temper with the whole family.

In the video, all the evidence of Chloe drugging me had been deleted.

Only my sharpest, most aggressive words remained.

Anyone who didn’t know the truth would only see me as rude, cruel, and ungrateful.

Sure enough, the guests began whispering among themselves.

But unlike what Chloe had imagined, they didn’t all turn against me.

Most of them turned on my parents instead.

“Was that the older Brooks girl in the video? She was rude, but parenting matters. When a kid turns out like that, the parents bear most of the blame.”

“Exactly. Instead of reflecting on themselves, they put their child’s worst moment on display. That’s not discipline. That’s humiliation. Are they trying to leave that girl no way to recover from this?”

Someone thought of the huge banner at the entrance of the ballroom.

They quickly came up with their own explanation.

“This has to be about playing favorites.”

“They’re showing off the younger daughter’s achievement while exposing the older daughter’s so-called bad behavior. If that isn’t tearing one kid down to lift the other up, what is?”

The others suddenly understood what they thought was happening.

Their disgust toward my parents deepened.

“That’s awful. Both girls are their daughters. How can they be that biased?”

Every word reached Sarah and David clearly.

Their bright smiles turned stiff.

Then their faces went ashen.

They knew they had ignored me in the past.

But they were trying to make up for it now.

This college acceptance party was supposed to be their apology to me.

Instead, it had turned into a public attack on me and a public judgment against them.

More than anger, they felt confused.

They had clearly changed the name on the banner to Emma Brooks.

Why were the guests saying the high score belonged to Chloe?

And what about the videos? They had never sent those clips to anyone.

How had they ended up on the screen today?

They immediately wanted to find Chloe because she had handled both the banner and the video, and they needed an explanation.

Instead, they happened to overhear Chloe on the phone with her best friend.

Only then did they learn the truth.

Just like the drugged milk, everything today had been Chloe’s doing.

The banner had not been a print shop mistake.

From the very beginning, she had submitted a version with her own name on it.

The pen she handed them was a disappearing-ink pen.

Once the ink was exposed to air, the writing vanished.

The videos smearing me had also been edited and swapped in by Chloe.

“She got lucky once and scored high. So what? She’s never been better than me at anything.”

“Today was supposed to be my moment. I’m not letting her steal my spotlight.”

Chloe’s eyes burned with hatred.

“I did it on purpose. I wanted her to embarrass herself. I wanted everyone to know I’m better than Emma.”

She said it through gritted teeth.

She hung up and turned toward the ballroom, only for a sharp crack to ring out the moment she moved.

Sarah had slapped her across the face.
