I pushed open the car door and walked slowly toward Lucas lying in a pool of blood.

His legs were crushed beyond recognition. His face was covered in blood. He lay there, barely conscious, completely limp.

He reached out a hand and looked at me in disbelief. “Faith, why… why did you hit me? I…”

“Help… help me. Please…”

I folded my arms and looked down at him coldly.

“Lucas, I saved your life. I saved your future. When Stella took every penny you had, I was the one who helped you get back on your feet.”

“And now, just six years later, you forgot what she did to you and started sneaking around behind my back with her.”

“You’re disgusting. You’re using my money to support the woman who betrayed you. You disgust yourself, and you make me sick.”

“You were supposed to die a long time ago. I’m the one who saved you. So really, I’m just setting things right.”

Blood gushed from his mouth. “Faith, I… I was wrong. Please, help me. I don’t want to die…”

I stepped closer and crouched down. Watching the tears run down his bloodied face, I felt nothing but satisfaction.

This would haunt him forever.

Blood and tears streamed down his face, mingling into a crimson blur. He looked so pitiful.

I didn’t answer him.

Slowly, he raised his hand and reached toward me.

“Faith, I’m… I’m sorry. I love you. I won’t… I won’t ever cheat again. I…”

Before he could finish, his hand fell.

He was dead. His eyes wide open. He died without accepting it.

I stood up, looked at the sky, and let the tears fall freely.

The Interface said, “Host, why are you crying? You hate him, don’t you? He’s dead. You should be laughing.”

I said, “Hate? You only hate when you’ve loved. I stayed in this world for him, so of course I loved him. Crying is normal.”

“Human emotions are like that. Love and hate are never far apart. As long as you don’t hurt yourself, you just keep moving forward.”

The Interface said, “I don’t get it. You love him, but you killed him.”

I blinked. “See, that’s why you’re a machine. If I left, he and his mistress would be living the good life on my money. How could I stand that?”

“Besides, there was no way I was going to spend those seven days watching those two lovebirds play house. So I killed him. One and done.”

“Whatever. I did tell you before, you know. If you kill the male lead, he’ll come back to life.”

“And you’ll be punished by having to stay in this world until you die of old age before you can go back to the real world.”

I said slowly, “So do I have to do the redemption mission again?”

The Interface said, “No, you don’t have to do the mission anymore. You just have to stay. Just don’t interfere with the plot.”

Hearing that, I burst out laughing. I almost felt like spinning right there on the sidewalk.

The Interface kept chattering. “Oh, don’t be too sad. A lifetime goes by fast. It’ll be over before you know it. Just hang in there.”

“Hey, why aren’t you saying anything? Are you really that sad? Don’t cry. It’s my fault. I should have stopped you from killing the male lead.”

“Don’t worry, I’ll stay with you through this whole lifetime.”

I grinned and laughed out loud.

“Why would I be sad? Lucas’s miserable life only got better because of my redemption. Now that I’m not here to save him, he won’t be so lucky.”

“This time, let’s see how he dies.”

The Interface was speechless.
