Caged Human Luna — He Stole My Freedom To Hide His Curse Chapter 07 “He’s Our Mate”

Elaine.

Everything hurts.

My body felt like it was on fire, then ice, then fire again. I gasped and shot upright, sweat pouring down my back. The room spun. Every sound slammed into my ears – the crackl the fire, someone’s footsteps outside, even the wind whistling through the cracks in the sto walls and the rhythmic, deep breathing of the man holding me.

“Easy, Elaine. I’ve got you. Breathe through it,” a voice rumbled close to my ear.

I opened my eyes, and the world exploded into rays of blinding light.

“What… happened?” My voice came out rough. I touched my neck. Two puncture marks burned under my fingers.

“Fenris,” I gasped, but it didn’t sound like my voice. It was deeper, laced with a low hum that echoed in my chest.

Something inside me stretched and yawned, like a big animal waking up. A sharp voice filled my head.

Finally, a voice echoed inside my mind. It was smooth, and crackling with dangerous energy Took you long enough. Look at us. We are magnificent.

I jumped, my heart hammering against my ribs. “Who is that?”

I’m Cole, the voice purred, a chuckle rippling through my thoughts. Think of me like coal, darling. Black, compressed under pressure, and ready to burn Ethan’s entire world to ash.

A wave of power rushed through my limbs.

I grinned. I actually liked her. She felt like the angry, brave part of me I’d buried for years.

Let me out, Cole snarled, her mental claws scratching at my consciousness. Let’s go find that grey wolf and tear his throat out.

“Elaine, look at me,” Fenris commanded, his large hands gripping my face, forcing me to meet his icy blue eyes. “You were dying, Marcus crushed you and I had to turn you. I had no choice. Your wolf is waking up. She’s going to demand blood, but you have to control her. The shift is coming. Don’t fight the change, but don’t let it consume you.”

The moment his skin touched mine, the same electric shock from yesterday hit me tenfold. Cole let out a low, content whine, leaning into the feeling.

Oh, Cole whispered, her mental eyes widening. The Lycan. He’s ours, Elaine. I smell it. He’s

mate.

My breath hitched. Mate? No, it’s just the leftover energy from the turn. It has to be.

Keep telling yourself that, Cole teased, laughing.

Suddenly, a violent spasm ripped through my spine. My ribs expanded, the bones snapping and reshaping with a loud, sickening crack. I screamed, dropping to my hands and knees on floor. Black fur began to sprout rapidly from my skin, pushing through the pores like needles

“Let it happen, Elaine! Focus on my voice!” Fenris shouted, dropping to his knees beside me. His eyes flared a fierce wave of calming Alpha aura that wrapped around me like a blanket. “Ground yourself. Think of why we are doing this. Think of Ethan. Think of the Gala.”

Ethan.

The name acted like oil on a fire. My jaw elongated, sharp fangs bursting from my gums. I let out a deafening howl that shook the wooden beams of the ceiling. With one final push, my human form collapsed, and a sleek black wolf stood in the center of the room.

I stretched my new legs, my claws gouging into the wooden floorboards. I felt light. I looked at Fenris, letting out a low, playful growl.

“You did it,” Fenris breathed, a smile breaking across his harsh features. He reached out, his hand buried deep into the thick black fur at the back of my neck.

Cole pushed forward, wanting to rub her head against his chest, but I fought down the urge, shaking my fur out. I shifted back, the reverse change swift and smooth, leaving me panting on the floor in my oversized clothes.

“How long do we have?” I panted, wiping sweat from my forehead.

“The emergency pack assembly is in forty-eight hours,” Fenris said, his expression turning serious as he pulled me up to my feet. “Marcus and his strike team retreated, but they think you didn’t survive. They’ll report back to Ethan.”

“Good,” I said, a dangerous, confident smile touching my lips. “He thinks he’s sealing the borders and executing my memory. He has no idea I’m coming to take his title.”

The next two days were an intensive crash course. We trained in the deep woods, running at speeds that blurred the trees around us. He taught me how to mask my scent, how to channel Cole’s raw aggression into calculated combat moves, and how to shift back and forth in seconds.

By the final night, we were standing on the jagged cliffside overlooking the valley. The lights of the Crystal Waters territory gleamed in the distance. The High Council Gala was tomorrow.

“You’re ready,” Fenris said, stepping up behind me.

“I couldn’t have done it without you,” I muttered, turning to face him.

We stood inches apart. The unspoken bond between us was vibrating, pulling us together like two magnets. I reached out, my fingers brushing against the silver burns on his wrist.

Fenris gasped, his grip tightening on my waist as he pulled me against his chest. His breathing was ragged, his blue eyes searching mine with an intensity that burned.

“Elaine,” he growled, a dark, possessive sound that made Cole purr loudly in my head. “You think this is just the turn? You think this spark is an accident?”

“I don’t know,” I whispered, my heart hammering. “Is it?”

He leaned down, his lips brushing against the shell of my ear. “It’s the mate bond. The Moon Goddess didn’t curse your old pack, Elaine. She kept you from Ethan because you belonged to

me.”

Before I could process his words, a low sound echoed from the dark woods behind us. We both spun around.

Standing at the edge of the clearing was Jax, his face covered in fresh blood, his breath coming in shallow gasps. He stumbled forward, collapsing into the dirt at Fenris’s feet.

“Fenris…” Jax wheezed, his fingers clawing at the gravel. “The Gala… it’s a trap. Ethan didn’t just invite the Council. He bought the Council enforcers. They’re already at the gates. They aren’t planning a trial…”

Jax choked, his eyes rolling back as he went limp.

From the shadows of the trees, a massive, golden-furred wolf stepped into the moonlight, its jaws dripping with Jax’s blood. It was Valery. And behind her, the dark forest was illuminated with dozens of glowing, bloodthirsty eyes.
