The assistant said it as if it was nothing.

“No! Ben, I’m sorry! Please, don’t do this!”

Jessica screamed in terror. She threw herself at Benjamin’s feet, sobbing and begging. “I was wrong! I’ll never do it again! Please, just let me go!”

One of the homeless men grabbed her by the ankle. He pulled her under him, tore off her clothes,

and climbed on top.

Jessica was crying and struggling, watching in despair as the men took turns on her.

Benjamin watched it all coldly, then he turned his wheelchair and left, saying only one thing. “Don’t

kill her.”

This wasn’t enough punishment. Jessica needed to suffer double what Emily had suffered.

Thinking of Emily sent a sharp pain through his chest.

He went back to the house he had shared with her.

He had thrown out everything Jessica had left, but there was still no trace of Emily.

Benjamin sat in his wheelchair, looking lost.

He regretted everything.

He regretted pretending to have amnesia just so he could fool around.

He regretted treating Jessica like a queen just to watch Emily suffer.

The regret was drowning him, and the pain of knowing he had killed the woman he loved was suffocating.

Maybe if he died and went to be with Emily, she would forgive him.

The thought took root in his mind and grew.

He pulled out a hunting knife as a voice in his head told him to stab himself.

Stab, and you’ll see Emily again.

He raised the knife high and aimed for his heart.

Just before the blade touched his skin, his phone rang.

Benjamin answered. The assistant’s voice came through. “Sir! I checked the records.”

“There were no fatalities from the car accident that day! Ms. Carter is still alive!”
