Boyfriend Dumped Me for “Heiress” BFF? Your New Girl Calls ME “Boss” Every Day! Chapter 07

Summer’s staring at me.

Like she’s never seen me before.

Her whole body sags. Crumples onto the floor.

Blake’s face changes.

Finally clicks.

He turns on Summer. Eyes huge.

“You lied?”

Voice climbing.

“You fucking lied to me?!”

Then he spins toward me. Hands up. Words spilling out.

“Willow-no-she played me. I swear to God.

“She told me she could get me into Sinclair. You know how it is after college-no-hookups, no job. I just wanted to start strong so I could-”

I’m staring at him.

He’s begging.

Where’s the guy who ran campus? Basketball star? Everyone’s golden boy?

This is what’s left.

First day we met flashes through my head.

He pulled me out of the pond. Grinning.

“Who trips into water trying to grab a kitten? That’s insane.”

Wiped his wet hair back.

“Blake Turner. SGA president.”

My stomach flipped. Cheeks burned.

Everyone knew Blake Turner.

Everywhere-cafeteria, library, Greek row.

Girls wouldn’t shut up about him.

Six-foot-two. Perfect smile. Made you feel like the center of the universe when he looked at you.

Business school. Dean’s list. Student government. Starting point guard.

He stood outside my building sophomore year. Shouted up at my window.

“Willow Sinclair! Go out with me!”

Every girl on the floor screamed.

Some sorority girl handed him her number during lunch once.

He shoved it in my hand instead.

“Keep sending me this crap and you’ll piss off my girlfriend.”

Senior year he started spiraling about post-grad.

All those accolades didn’t mean shit anymore.

Every application-rejected.

He sat on my bed one night. Wouldn’t look up.

“Maybe I’m just not good enough, Willow.”

Voice cracking.

“I just want something solid. Good money. Real career. So I can give you everything.”

Killed me to see him like that.

So I went to Dad. Begged him to give Blake an internship.

Now I’m realizing.

If he was so damn perfect, why couldn’t he land one job on his own?

Maybe he wasn’t that special.

Maybe I just didn’t want to admit it.

Sometimes you can’t see the truth till you’re outside it.

I look at him now. Voice cold.

“Freshman year. You and Summer making out in the fire escape stairwell. You knew she was a Sinclair then?”

He goes pale.

I don’t stop.

“Sophomore year. You ditched me for a month. Said you were working on my birthday present.”

Pause.

“I got a five-dollar Hallmark card. Summer got a hand-glued crystal picture frame.”

My voice gets sharper.

“Gonna tell me that was career planning too?”

“Junior year-white dress. Senior year-promise ring.”

All those red flags I shoved down. Ignored. Made excuses for.

Now they’re just sitting there. Obvious.

My head feels clear for the first time in years.

“You got off on it. Stringing both of us along.”

I step closer.

“Till Summer told you she got you the Sinclair gig. Till you thought she was the heiress.”

Pause.

“That’s when you dropped me.”

Summer pushes herself upright. Face desperate.

“Willow-stop! He’s lying!”

Voice shaking but loud now.

“Freshman year he pulled me into that stairwell. He kissed me first. Said he wanted to know what it felt like to screw around behind your back.”

“He didn’t even know I worked here. Just knew we were best friends.”

She’s talking faster.

“The ring? That was so I wouldn’t date other guys.”

“And those four years? He took me to motels. All the time.”

Her eyes burn into mine.

“Half the time when you called, we were literally-”
