Born Ditzy: Drunk Vows, Sober Goodbye Chapter 07

Born Ditzy: Drunk Vows, Sober Goodbye Chapter 07

The comments were equally stunned.

[Mr. Steele is crying…]

[Man, he must really love Lyra.]

[He didn’t cry when he thought the baby was gone, yet here he is, bawling now that he knows it’s still around.]

[Because the fear only hit him afterward.]

I dabbed at Nolan’s tears with my sleeve. “Hey, don’t cry.”

He opened his eyes and grabbed my hand. He held on tight, like he was afraid I would disappear.

“I’m sorry,” he said hoarsely. “I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have just assumed without asking you properly…”

“Yeah, you didn’t.” I nodded. “You came up to me and immediately accused me of aborting the baby. Before I got the chance to say anything, you started coughing up blood.”

Nolan’s face stiffened. “…I coughed up blood?”

“Yeah. A lot. You scared the hell out of me.”

The comments were amused.

[Lyra sounds like she’s just talking about the weather.]

[Her reaction time is longer than the equator.]

[But she did say he scared the hell out of her. That means she does care.]

Nolan stared at me for a few seconds. Then, he suddenly yanked me into his arms. He held me tight, burying his face in the crook of my neck. I could feel him trembling.

“I thought…” His voice was muffled. “I thought you got rid of the baby, that you didn’t even want our child.”

“Why would I do that?” I asked, genuinely puzzled. “The baby didn’t do anything to offend me.”

His body went rigid for a second. Then, he held me even tighter.

The comments were even more amused now.

[Lyra’s logic is always so unique.]

[“The baby didn’t do anything to offend me.” I’m crying from laughter, guys.]

[Weirdly enough, this is kinda heartwarming.]

[Mr. Steele: I will never catch up with my wife’s train of thought.]

It was a long while before Nolan finally let go, but he kept his hands on my waist, refusing to move them away. He looked straight into my eyes, his expression far too serious for someone who’d just coughed up blood.

“Everything I gave you before… that was nothing. I’m going to give you even better things. They’ll be a thousand times better.”

The comments went wild.

[Here it is, here it is! The CEO-style love declaration unlocked!]

(Isn’t he bankrupt right now?]

(Yeah, he’s still working at the construction site. What’s he planning to use to spoil her?]

I frowned. “But aren’t you drowning in debt?”

Something flickered in Nolan’s eyes. Instead of answering me, he laced his fingers through mine, gently rubbing the back of my hand with his thumb.

“Do you trust me?” he asked.

I thought about it. “I guess so. You’ve always treated me really well.”

For a moment, he was taken aback. Then, he smiled. In the three years I’d known him, this was the first time I’d even seen him smile that freely.

The comments were starry-eyed.

[That smile just killed me on the spot.]

(Okay, but seriously, how does he end up so rich later?]

[I’m calling it now-I bet he has some secret identity.]

[The surname Steele… could he be from the Jalton Steeles?]

[Holy crap. Don’t you dare leave after saying that!]

[What Jalton Steeles?]

I saw “the Jalton Steeles” pop up in the comments, but I didn’t think much of it because Nolan started telling me about his time

at the construction site. He said he’d saved a coworker there, which is how his arm got sliced open by a steel bar.

He also told me Celia had somehow heard he was hurt and hurried over on her own. He stressed, “There really isn’t anything

between her and me.”

“I know.” I nodded. “You already said so.”

He looked at me and suddenly asked, “So… you’re not mad?”

“Mad about what?”

“About her coming to you and saying all that stuff.”

I thought it over. “She was kind of annoying, but it wasn’t enough to actually piss me off.”

Nolan fell silent.

The comments laughed at him.

[Mr. Steele: Why doesn’t my wife get jealous? Is it because I’m not worth it?]

[No, sir. It’s not that you’re not worth it. It’s just that Lyra’s reaction time hasn’t caught up yet.]

[She’ll probably take three days to really get it.]

(Hahaha! So true!]
