Blood And Promises Novel by Sabrina Hart Chapter 09

The elderly man on duty was startled when he saw her covered in blood.

“You… what happened to you? Do you need to call the police?”

“No… no need. I… I just want to ask, has the compulsory divorce decree I applied for a few days ago been issued yet?”

The elderly man looked at her pale face and stubborn eyes, hesitated for a moment, but still went inside to search through the records.

“Ms. Serrano, right?” The elderly man came out holding a document. “It’s here, it just arrived today. Here you go.”

Samantha took the thin yet unbearably heavy divorce decree with trembling hands.

“Thank you…”

She did not go home, but instead headed to the largest newspaper office in the city. In the early hours, only the duty editor was present.

“I want to publish a notice,” Samantha said to the sleepy editor.

The editor was startled by her appearance: “You…”

“I want to publish a statement,” Samantha spoke calmly, but with an undeniable determination. “I, Samantha, have officially dissolved my marriage with Major General Cantrell due to irreconcilable differences. From now on, we are free to marry whomever we wish, and have nothing to do with each other. This is my official statement.”

The editor was dumbfounded: “This… this requires Major General Cantrell’s consent, doesn’t it? And the content…”

“We are already divorced!” Samantha took out the brand-new divorce decree and slapped it on the table. “Tomorrow, I want to see this statement on the front page. Money is not an issue.”

She took out all the valuables she had on her and piled them in front of the editor.

The editor looked at those items, then at Samantha’s resolute eyes, and finally nodded: “…Alright.”

When she walked out of the newspaper office, the sky was already beginning to lighten.

Dragging her battered body, Samantha finally returned to the small villa.

The servant, Mollie Greene, was sweeping the yard. When she saw Samantha, covered in blood and barely able to walk, she was so frightened that she dropped her broom and screamed, “Mrs. Cantrell! What happened to you?! Oh my god! I… I’ll go call Major General Cantrell! I’ll call a doctor!”

“No need.” Samantha’s voice was soft, but carried an undeniable force. “Mollie, don’t call anyone.”

“But Mrs. Cantrell, you…”

“Go help me pack my luggage,” Samantha interrupted her. “Just a few simple clothes. You know where my documents and bankbook are, bring them all out for me.”

Mollie looked at Samantha’s pale yet unusually calm face, feeling uneasy, but still did as she was told.

Soon, a small suitcase was packed.

Samantha changed into clean clothes, barely covering her wounds.

She picked up the suitcase, walked to the door, then stopped and spoke to the bewildered Mollie.

“When he comes back and asks where I went, just say…”

She paused, a faint and icy smile tugging at the corner of her mouth.

“That I left, beaten and bloodied, by his beloved.”

“Wish him and his beloved a lifetime of happiness and unity.”

After saying this, she opened the door and walked out without looking back.

She took a taxi to the airport and bought a ticket for a flight heading north.

Soon, the boarding announcement sounded over the speakers. She carried her suitcase, staggering yet determined, toward the gate, with the morning light softly shining behind her.

A new day had begun.

And Samantha’s new life would quietly begin on this northbound plane.
