Blind Heiress Kissed The Mad Regent Chapter 06

The physician trembled as he confessed, “My lady, you’ve got guts, I’ll give you that. But this Blood Renewal

Ritual?”

“It’s barely more than a few scraps in some ancient book. Nobody’s ever actually done it. If the slightest

thing goes wrong between you and her, you’re both dead. You get that, right?”

Hearing this, Marlowe was overcome with instant, bitter regret. But Silas stood there with a face of stone. If

she dared utter a single word of refusal, she’d be dead on the spot.

Cornered and desperate, she had no choice but to grit her teeth and lie down on the cot. The transfusion

began.

As minutes bled into hours, a faint hint of color finally returned to my deathly pale face. The physician

checked my pulse again and again before he dared to announce that I was temporarily out of mortal danger.

On the other bed, Marlowe had lost a massive amount of blood. The moment the procedure ended, she slumped and tumbled straight off the cot onto the floor.

My mother immediately rushed over and gathered her into her arms. Marlowe’s eyelids drooped, and a bitter

smile touched her lips. “Mom, ever since she came back, you haven’t held me like this. Not once. If giving her

my blood kills me… at least you’re looking at me again. I’ll take that.”

“Silly child, don’t talk like that.” Seeing Marlowe so frail and weak, all the pity and guilt my mother had been

suppressing came flooding out.

She held her tighter, tears streaming down her face. “Your father and I haven’t been there for you. We messed

You and Elara, you’re both our daughters. We love you both.”
My father sighed heavily too, his expression filled with remorse.

Even the Queen Mother’s opinion of Marlowe shifted. She couldn’t help but remark, “Before, you let your

jealousy get the best of you, and honestly, it was ugly. But now? Now I see who you really are, a good, loyal girl who’d risk her own life for her sister.”

She immediately decreed, “I will have the King bestow upon you the Order of Devoted Grace. From this day forward, every noble daughter in the Capital will be measured against your example.”

The joy in Marlowe’s eyes was barely contained. She murmured her thanks with soft humility. “I’m deeply grateful for Your Majesty’s kindness. But I’m worn out, I should take my leave and rest.”

She’d barely staggered to her feet when Silas blocked her path. “No one leaves this room until she wakes.”

Marlowe stiffened, forcing herself to stay calm. “Your Highness, I saved my sister’s life. Doesn’t that count for something? Why are you still coming after me?”

“Count for something?” Silas let out a cold laugh, his eyes sharp as a blade. “Don’t forget, nobody’s figured out yet who put those snakes in that chest in the first place.”

“That was already settled! She didn’t want to marry you, so she put the snakes there to kill you.”

“If she really didn’t want this, I never would’ve gone to the palace to ask for that decree in the first place.” Silas’s voice was frigid. “And Elara’s way too smart to cook up something this stupid, she’d never put her own life on the line for a stunt like that.”

Marlowe’s eyes welled up with instant, practiced tears. “That was obviously her playing the victim to clear her name after the murder plot flopped!”

“The physicians said it themselves, that snake is a rare, exotic breed. Regular people can’t even find one, much less afford it.”

“I was shut in that Chapel copying verses for a whole month, and after that you had me beaten so badly I couldn’t even get out of bed for two weeks. When exactly was I supposed to find the time or energy to hunt down a snake like that?”

“But Elara? She’s about to be the Princess Regent. Everyone showers her with love and whatever else she wants. She can get her hands on anything.” She was gaining confidence now, wiping the last of her tears.

“Elara even told me how she really feels. She said yes to this marriage, but her heart is somewhere else. She regretted it the second she agreed. The man she really wants is the stable hand. If you don’t believe me, Your Highness, bring him in and ask him yourself.”

Silas’s expression grew darker and darker.

Moments later, the guards dragged a stable hand into the hall. Before anyone could question him, he pulled a woman’s slip from his tunic and held it up high, falling to his knees in a desperate plea.

“My lord, my lady, please, grant us your blessing. Lady Elara and I fell in love long ago. We’ve already pledged

ourselves to each other.”
