Betrayed Twice, I Pretended Amnesia To Take Revenge On My Alpha Mate And Sister Chapter 02

“Stop teasing Haley,” Clarence said into the phone, his voice carrying an unbelievable tenderness.

“If you push her too far and she cries, I’ll have to comfort her, and then I won’t be able to come see you tonight.”

By the time I came back to myself, he had already hung up.

He looked at me with that expression I once found familiar and safe. “Get some sleep. I’ll make you breakfast in the morning.”

He was still wearing the custom suit I had picked out for him, still wearing the tie I had knotted with my own hands.

Still smiling that gentle smile, as if nothing had happened.

As if he hadn’t torn the self I had rebuilt to shreds.

I couldn’t hold it in anymore. I stared at him with bloodshot eyes and demanded, “Clarence, why are you doing this?”

“You swore to the Moon Goddess you would never betray me. Never.”

The moment the words left my mouth, tears spilled down like an endless stream.

But instead of comforting me like he always had, he let out a mocking laugh.

“Haley, if you had chosen me as your mate first, I probably would have cherished you for the rest of my life.”

His words were merciless. “But you chose Gabriel first. So why should I be loyal to you?”

Then he crouched down in front of me.

Our eyes met, and his false mask finally slipped away.

Underneath was nothing but festering malice and something twisted beyond recognition.

I felt nothing but absurdity.

When we first came of age, both he and Gabriel had pursued me.

Back then, I chose Gabriel.

After that, Clarence vanished from my world.

Not until Gabriel and Bethany’s affair.

Not until my parents defended Bethany and accused me of not being able to handle an Alpha’s heart.

Not until those accusations pushed me to the edge of despair.

Only then did Clarence reappear in my life.

He showed up like a knight sworn to protect his princess.

With patient hands, he slowly pieced my shattered world back together and promised he would never betray me.

He never once brought up my past, and I thought he truly didn’t care.

So I asked the question that was suddenly growing wild inside my chest.

“If my past bothered you this much, then why did you insist on forming a mate bond with me?”

Clarence paused, then spread his hands and shrugged with a troubled expression.

“I thought I didn’t care,” he said. “But after we were actually together…”

He looked me up and down, and the way his eyes moved made my blood run cold.

“It felt like every inch of you still had someone else’s mark on it.”

The cruelty didn’t stop there.

“Gabriel’s shadow is everywhere–in the Elders’ offhand praise, in how you know every detail of the mating ceremony by heart, in the way pack members still call you the former Luna of Frostfall Pack.”

His smile twisted into something ugly.

“All of it constantly reminding me that every single first of yours was experienced with him. This was my first time choosing a mate, but for you, it was the second. Tell me, Haley, how am I supposed to swallow that and just accept it?”

Tears blurred my vision.

Then he leaned closer and lowered his voice.

“But I do love you.”

He reached out and traced his fingers across my face with a terrifying gentleness.

“So you had a year-long bond with Gabriel. I figured I could let myself have one year of indulgence too, and then love you properly after that. That’s fair, right?”

I closed my eyes in defeat, and a single tear fell onto the back of his hand.

He jerked away like he’d been burned.

“No,” I said slowly, my voice shaking so badly I could barely form a complete sentence.

“That’s not fair!”

“If you couldn’t accept my past, then you should never have come near me. You don’t get to betray me in the name of love.”

I finally screamed it out, trembling, the pain so raw it felt like my wolf was being torn in two.

“Clarence, I want to break the mate bond!”

The scream erupted from somewhere deep inside me.

But Clarence didn’t get angry. Instead, he went suddenly calm.

He gripped my chin and forced me to look at him as he spoke, word by word.

“We’ve already marked each other. All that’s left is the mating ceremony to officially declare you as my Luna.”

“You don’t get to decide what’s fair anymore.”

“Break the mate bond? Don’t even think about it. Even if you can’t take it, you’ll endure it.”

Then he smiled, pulled out his phone, and dialed Bethany’s number again.

“I changed my mind,” he said. “Come to the pack house now. We’ll do it here.”
