Before I even stepped foot out into view, Lila slammed the phone down and rushed to end the call. It’s hilarious watching her scramble to prop up this fake wedding no matter what cost she has to pay

The wedding’s official start time was drawing near. Though her biggest corporate partner still hadn’t arrived, she couldn’t brush off the other investors and socialites filling the ballroom. Most importantly, the representative from Mercer Conglomerate sat front row among the guests.

If she locked in that huge corporate contract with Mercer Conglomerate, she wouldn’t care one bit if every single other business associate walked out on her.

As for Kael, the man who’d left signed divorce papers in her hospital suite? He was the absolute last thing on her priority list. She was convinced all she needed to do was grovel and apologize sincerely later/and he’d definitely forgive her. This thought hardened her resolve, and she spun on her heel to hurry backstage.

I watched her every move with dry amusement. They still refused to scrap the wedding-were they really gonna drag some random stand-in to take my place?

This thought made me sink back into my hidden corner seat. Once I released all the incriminating proof 1 held, it wouldn’t matter who the substitute groom was. This whole farce would crumble into a humiliating public mess.

Moments later, Lila walked back out onto the ceremony floor with a man whose entire face was hidden under a heavy fabric veil. One quick glance at his broad frame told me exactly who this person was.

Every reckless move she’s making today is digging her own grave deeper.

The second guests laid eyes on the veiled groom, quiet murmurs rippled across the entire ballroom. No matter how many upscale weddings these wealthy socialites had attended, none had ever seen a groom wearing a full face veil.

“What’s going on here? Why’s the groom covering his whole face with a veil?”

“Did they swap out the real groom for someone last minute?”

“I’ve been to dozens of elite wedding receptions, and I’ve never seen something this bizarre.”

“The event planners should’ve warned us about this weird detail ahead of time!”

“Is this some obscure regional wedding custom I’ve never heard of?”

Even someone as shameless as Lila grew flustered amid the nonstop whispers swirling around her. She forced an awkward, tight smile and addressed the crowd.

“Everyone, I’m truly sorry for this strange sight. The groom suffered a severe facial injury recently and isn’t comfortable showing his face to anyone right now.”

“We couldn’t reschedule the wedding due to binding venue contracts, so this veil was our only viable workaround. I offer my deepest apologies for the confusion this causes.”

A faint pink blush tinted her cheeks as she spoke, putting on a convincing act of genuine embarrassment.

It was classic Lila’s tactic-even caught red-handed in an obvious lie, she could still brazenly craft a believable excuse to fool everyone around her.

The guests stared at her seemingly mortified expression and held back their unspoken doubts, though each person kept their private suspicions to themselves.

Once she saw the crowd had been temporarily pacified, Lila shot a silent sharp glance at the emcee to rush the ceremony along faster.

The master of ceremonies caught her unspoken cue instantly and herded Lila and the veiled man to zip through every remaining wedding ritual.

As long as no more disasters popped up, she’d successfully secure a valuable business partnership through this wedding event. A self-satisfied tiny smile tugged at the corners of her lips at this thought.
