I slept in. When I woke, it was noon.

The chat was buzzing.

[Guess who I just saw-Ethan Grant, tall and gorgeous in the crowd, with Avery right beside him.

[Also-he’s wearing a wedding ring!]

[Wait-did they elope or something?]

She didn’t respond.

[We’ll just ask at dinner.]

I washed my hair, put on makeup, and stared into my closet. I pulled out a champagne silk dress- the one Ethan brought back from Australia last year. Maybe he picked it, maybe his assistant did. I’d never worn it. Too afraid I’d disappoint him. Too afraid he wouldn’t even remember.

For the first time, I tried it on.

It actually fit perfectly.

Guess you never know until you try.

When I arrived, the ribbon-cutting was just starting.

They scattered, huddling with others, pointing and whispering.

But I didn’t shrink this time.

I looked back-and met Ethan’s eyes. They held mine, like they were trying to say something.

“Avery! He’s looking at you!” someone squealed behind me.

Avery was standing nearby with Tiffany Blake-the girl who’d framed me. She didn’t deny it; she just shot me a wary glance.

A classmate came over, “It’s been so long-want to join us for dinner after?”
