I knew that watching me for the past three months had broken Luca’s heart.

Once trust was broken, rebuilding it was never easy.

But I had no choice except to take that chance.

Fortunately, I won.

He had his personal assistant and two guards loyal to him escort me back to the villa, while he went to the

baking studio with his Consigliere.

He didn’t use force. He simply asked the owner to retrieve the surveillance backups through proper channels

and brought in an independent technician to recover the data.

The bakery had security cameras, so the footage could be restored. I also told Luca that I hadn’t met Ethan

until after his death and asked him to investigate Ethan too.

Half an hour later, Vanessa showed up again.

She was carrying a suitcase, which she shoved into my hands.

“I lied and said someone was trying to force their way in through the side entrance, so the housekeeper and

the guards on duty went to check it out. Serena, I know seeing Luca alive again made you afraid he might

hurt you, so you called off the wedding at the last minute. But the man you’ve always loved is Ethan. There’s

cash I’ve saved, a few prepaid cards, and some clothes in here. You two need to leave Moretti territory right

now.”

I pulled my hand out of hers.

“You want me to run away with Ethan?”

“Are you serious?”

Vanessa looked frantic.

“Luca almost strangled you earlier. If you don’t leave now, are you planning to stay here and wait for him to

do it again? He values loyalty above everything else. He’ll never forgive what happened between you and Ethan. I’m trying to help you.”

“Then come with us.”

Vanessa froze.

“I can’t. I… my mom is still here…”

“Forget that. Luca isn’t back yet. Use the staff entrance at the back. Ethan is waiting outside the villa walls

for you. I’ll keep an eye on the housekeeper and the guards.”

With that, Vanessa hurried away without even checking whether I’d agreed.

I was sure she was going to alert Luca, so I quietly followed her and heard her talking to herself.

I immediately started recording on my phone so I could preserve whatever evidence she revealed next.

“System, once Serena runs away with Ethan, Luca will finally give up on her completely. She can be taken out of the story this time, right? Good thing I’ve got a cheat like you on my side. Otherwise, I never could’ve faked the pregnancy report or those photos and videos.”

“Tonight, once Luca gets drunk over her betrayal, I’ll put something in his drink and create undeniable evidence that something happened between us. As long as the Capos believe I can steady the heir, I’ll have a

chance to enter the Family’s inner circle.”

She held a small clear vial between her fingers, smiling as she examined it over and over, clearly convinced her plan had already succeeded.

At last, I understood.

From the very beginning, Vanessa had planned to use fabricated evidence to take my place and steal my

marriage.

I’d read enough novels to understand what a system was supposed to do. I just never imagined one could

actually exist.

The System explained how Vanessa had known in advance that Luca would come back to life.

Her plan was to make me run away with Ethan, then let Luca investigate the photos and videos and conclude

they were genuine.

Even if he saw the bakery footage afterward, he’d only think I’d run because I was guilty.

His hatred for me would only grow.

“Serena!”

Just as I was trying to figure out what to do next, Ethan suddenly appeared behind me and grabbed my hand.

“Don’t say anything. We need to go.”

I was about to speak when a cold voice cut in.

“Where do you think you’re going?”

The moment Ethan saw Luca, he curled his lips into a smile and deliberately acted completely unafraid.

“We’re leaving, obviously. Serena loves me. I’m the only one who can free her from the Moretti Family’s

surveillance and rules.”

“Mr. Moretti!”

Vanessa cried out when she saw Ethan holding my hand.

“Serena, are you… are you running away with Ethan?”

I yanked my hand free and turned to Vanessa.

“Vanessa, this is exactly what you arranged. You know better than anyone why I’m here.”

“You’re accusing me again without any evidence… Serena, why are you so determined to blame everything on

me?”

I wasn’t interested in arguing with her. I simply played the recording I’d just made.

Vanessa and Ethan both went pale.

Vanessa’s voice rose sharply.

“That recording is fake! I don’t know anything about any System!”

Ethan softened his voice and went straight back to playing the protector.

“Serena, I know you’re afraid Mr. Moretti will come after you. Don’t be scared. I’ll protect you…”

I cut him off, keeping my eyes on Luca as I waited for him to decide for himself.

“You should have seen the surveillance footage by now. If you don’t believe the recording, search Vanessa.

She still has the vial on her.”

At once, Luca’s assistant had a female security guard restrain Vanessa and search her in front of the lawyer

and the housekeeper.

Sure enough, they found the vial.

The moment Vanessa saw it, all the color drained from her lips and she stopped struggling.

“Mr. Moretti, the substance in the vial will need to be tested, but she was carrying it on her, and she also

entered the restricted residential area in violation of security protocol.”

“If you still don’t believe me after this, then I have nothing left to say.”

I met Luca’s gaze through reddened eyes, my voice trembling uncontrollably.

“I can give up the inheritance and my seat in the Family. I didn’t deceive you when I entered this marriage. If

you want to end it, I’ll sign the divorce papers. But I never betrayed you. You can’t decide I’m guilty based on evidence someone else fabricated.”
