Before My Mafia Husband Returned from the Dead, I Rejected the Proposal My Best Friend Arranged Chapter 06

“Shut up!”

I raised my voice, trying to stop Ethan from inventing any more details.

When Ethan saw Luca step back, a confident smile spread across his face.

“Mr. Moretti, Serena and I haven’t known each other nearly as long as you two have. You grew up together,

after all. If there’s anything about her I haven’t figured out yet, feel free to enlighten me.”

“Luca, I don’t know how I could be expecting a child, but you have to believe me. I really never-”

I moved toward Luca at once, speaking faster and faster, desperate to make him hear me out.

But the way he stepped back said everything: he didn’t believe me, and he didn’t want me anywhere near him.

“The day I went away on business, I called you six times and you didn’t answer. You told me you’d fallen

asleep.”

Ethan let out a laugh.

“Oh, I heard the phone ringing. Neither of us had any intention of answering it.”

“Ethan, what makes you think I’d ever choose you?”

I stared straight at him, making no effort to hide my contempt.

“What exactly do you have that Luca doesn’t? You don’t have his ability, and you couldn’t shoulder the responsibilities he does. You couldn’t even buy a house without planning to trick me into using my trust to pay your mortgage. You can’t even support yourself, so what makes you think I’d abandon him and the

Family responsibilities we’ve carried together for years just to choose a man who wants to live off his

partner?”

Ethan’s smile vanished, and the corner of his mouth twitched.

“I don’t know how the two of you managed to fake that report, but Ethan, you know perfectly well I couldn’t be

carrying your child. Vanessa is the one who’s expecting. If you keep helping her with this act, she’ll use that

child to get close to someone with more status and have your own child calling another man Dad!”

Ethan immediately looked at Vanessa’s stomach, doubt entering his eyes for the first time.

Vanessa stiffened and quickly cut off his train of thought.

“Serena, even if you’re afraid Mr. Moretti will hold you responsible for betraying your marriage, you can’t just claim the child is mine. And we’re such close friends. Ethan is the man you love. Why would I ever try to take him from you?”

When she saw Ethan still staring at her stomach, Vanessa forced out a couple of tears.

“Ethan, hurry up and explain it to Serena.”

“Stop dragging Vanessa into this!” Ethan snapped at me. “Vanessa has nothing to do with any of this. I disappointed you once, that’s all. Why are you turning on her and making accusation after accusation? The examination already disproved your claim. Are you really going to force me to show everyone even more

evidence?”

A bad feeling suddenly came over me.

Ethan pulled out his phone and held it in front of my face.

The moment I saw the photos and videos on the screen, my hands and feet went ice–cold.

“These are photos and videos of us together that day. You can clearly see the layout of the bedroom and

even the blind spots in the security–camera coverage. Are you still going to deny it? Fine.”

He turned and showed the phone to Luca.

“Mr. Moretti, that’s your own bedroom–the one you shared with Serena. You should recognize it. And as for the mole on Serena’s waist, there’s no way you could mistake that either, right?”

I looked up at Vanessa through reddened eyes.

She immediately looked away, refusing to meet my gaze.

Only Luca and Vanessa knew about the mole on my waist.

“Photos and videos can be faked. A mole can be faked too.”

Exhausted, I closed my eyes.

“Luca, investigate it yourself.”

Luca still said nothing. His hand hung at his side, clenched so tightly that his knuckles cracked. His patience

was almost gone.

Ethan looked completely unbothered.

“I’ve got nothing to hide.”

I opened my eyes, unable to understand why Ethan and Vanessa were so willing to let Luca investigate if all

that evidence was fake.

Could they somehow make fabricated evidence look real, just like that medical report?

Then something occurred to me, and I grabbed Luca’s arm.

“I did lie to you that day. I wasn’t asleep–but I was somewhere else, and I have a witness who can prove it.”

Luca’s birthday was one week after Columbus Day weekend.

That day, I’d slipped away from my security detail and gone to a baking studio outside Moretti territory to learn how to make him a birthday cake, but I kept failing. I was so frustrated that I missed his calls, and because I didn’t want him to think I was hopeless at it, I lied and told him I’d been asleep the whole time.

I didn’t explain any of that aloud. I only looked at Luca.

“One last time.”

Vanessa and Ethan both looked uneasy when they realised I wasn’t backing down.

“Serena, we really were together that day. Even if you find someone to lie to Mr. Moretti for you, it won’t change anything. Those photos and videos are real.”

I ignored him and waited for Luca’s answer.
