At Twenty-Eight, He Married My Enemy. At Eighteen, He Gave Me a Second Life. Chapter 08

The moment Ethan opened the door, the hope vanished from his face.

Blair was standing outside.

The instant she saw the coldness in his eyes, her own eyes turned red.

Ethan had never looked at her like that before.

He had only ever treated Eileen with that kind of cold indifference.

Blair deliberately thrust her visibly rounded belly forward.

“Ethan, are you still mad at me?”

She raised a hand and wiped away tears that weren’t even there.

“If it hadn’t been for the baby that day, I swear I would’ve stayed there with you. But I couldn’t risk our baby. Do you have any idea how much it hurt me to run away?”

Ethan stared at her coldly.

He was drunk.

He hadn’t lost his memory.

He would never forget the look in Blair’s eyes when she ran away that day.

Blair cried for a long time, but Ethan still didn’t come over and comfort her the way he always had before.

She started to feel afraid.

Why had the man who once did whatever she wanted suddenly changed?

Then she saw the photograph on the table.

It was Eileen’s high school ID photo.

The picture was small.

Its edges were wrinkled.

It looked as though it had once been soaked in water and handled over and over again.

Blair’s expression instantly tightened.

No.

Absolutely not.

She had spent eight years taking Ethan away from Eileen.

She had done everything she could to turn a man who once couldn’t stand her into someone who couldn’t live without her.

She would never let Ethan go back to Eileen.

Blair snatched up the photo and tore it to pieces.

“Ethan, what is wrong with you? You can forgive Eileen, so why can’t you forgive me? She’s the one who brought that man there to stab you! That young guy was willing to kill for her. They must have been involved for a long time! You should call the police and have both of them thrown in prison!”

Ethan lunged forward to grab the photo.

But it was too late.

The torn pieces slipped from Blair’s hand.

On the night Eileen’s mother died, Eileen had burned every photo in the house that included her.

Ethan had searched for a long time before finally getting hold of this old student ID photo.

It was the only thing he had left of her now.

And Blair had destroyed it.

“You bitch!”

Ethan slapped her across the face.

Blair stumbled into the edge of the table.

She covered her cheek, staring at him in complete disbelief.

“You hit me? Ethan, you actually hit me over that woman? I’m carrying your baby!”

She was shaking with rage, and the sweet, innocent facade she usually wore disappeared completely.

“What’s the point of pretending you love her now? When Eileen was hospitalized with a high fever, you spent the night with me in the office. When her mother died and she cried until she passed out at the funeral, you were at a jewelry store helping me pick out a ring. When she walked into that lake and even lost her baby, you were kissing me at our wedding and swearing you’d love only me for the rest of your life. Where was all this love for her then?”

Blair laughed.

“It’s too late now. Even if you gave her everything you have, Eileen still wouldn’t come back. She hates you. She hates you more than anything.”
