Baldwin’s hand trembled as he clutched his phone.

Then, all at once, everything snapped into place in his mind.

“That stunt you pulled at the birthday party-accusing Florence of stealing—that was you, wasn’t it?” His voice was low and dangerous.

“And the allergic reaction, the burn-those weren’t accidents. Ursa, how could you be so cruel?”

Ursa’s face went pale. She stumbled backward, knocking over a vase behind her. It shattered across the floor.

“Alpha, I did it because I love you!” she cried.

“You were my first love. I was supposed to be your mate! But that omega-she took you from me. Always pretending to be so generous, so unaffected. I just wanted you to see her for who she really is!”

Baldwin couldn’t take it anymore. His hand flew before he even realized it, striking her hard across the face.

Ursa collapsed to the floor, clutching her cheek, stunned. “You hit me? For her? And you claim you don’t care about her? You’re such a hypocrite!”

As her voice echoed through the room, something inside Baldwin cracked. The disappointment, the disgust-it was suffocating.

“All these years, and you still don’t get it,” he said coldly. “Your family treated you like one of their own. You could’ve lived a peaceful life.”

He stared down at her. “I was wrong about you, Ursa. I never should’ve trusted you.”

Ursa, who had been shaking moments before, suddenly grew eerily calm. She lifted her eyes to his.

“Oh, you still think Florence left because of me?” she sneered. “Let me tell you something. That girl had everything handed to her since birth-beauty, status, and love. I hated her for that. So I took what mattered most to her. Her parents. You.”

Her smile twisted. “But women know women best. She left because of you. You broke her down with every cold word, every silent night, and every time you put me above her. She’s given up on you.

“Alpha, you always got everything you wanted, right? How does it feel to lose your fated mate

now? Hurts, doesn’t it? Guess even you have a heart after all. And to think, you once swore you loved me. Men-your promises mean nothing.”

Her words sliced through him like knives.

In a flash, Baldwin lunged forward and grabbed her by the throat.

“Shut up,” he growled. “You don’t get to say another word. You-vile, manipulative woman.”

His Alpha’s presence hit her like a wave. Ursa’s breath hitched, but even as she gasped for air, she kept talking. “Go ahead,” she rasped. “But everything I said is true. You let me take your affection, your time. You let the others believe I stood above Florence. So don’t pretend your hands are clean.”

His grip tightened. At that moment, he wanted nothing more than for her to be silent-by any

means necessary.

Ursa cried out in pain. Her nails dug deep into his skin, leaving bright red welts.

But Baldwin didn’t feel a thing. His fingers were locked around her throat, and he couldn’t let

Cold air rushed into Ursa’s lungs. She gasped, coughing and choking, dragging in desperate breaths.

A beta assistant rushed in just then. “Alpha-we’ve found Florence. We have her exact location.”

Baldwin turned at once, ready to leave. But Ursa threw herself at him, wrapping her arms around his leg in desperation. “You can’t just walk away from me! I am what you made me, Alpha! You spoiled me, and now you have to take responsibility!”

“Take her away,” Baldwin said coldly. “Lock her up. And make sure her family knows everything she’s done.”

He peeled her hands off his leg one by one and gave a curt order to the Gamma bodyguards who had arrived. “No one lets her out unless I say so. No exceptions.”

Then he strode to the garage. The engine roared to life, and in the rearview mirror, Ursa’s cries faded into the distance until there was nothing but silence.
