Alpha, I Won’t Be Your Luna Again Chapter 06

When I woke, the first thing I heard was the doctor talking outside my room.

“The patient’s wound from the miscarriage hadn’t healed to begin with. She’s got multiple knife wounds and fractures on top of it, and now another impact tore the abdominal wound back open. Ten minutes later and we’d have lost her!”

Outside, it went quiet for a beat.

Then came Nathan’s voice, gone strange and off-key.

“…Miscarriage?”

The doctor frowned.

“You didn’t know?”

“It’s right there in her chart. She jumped from a building escaping a fire a week ago, which ended the pregnancy. You’re her mate. How do you not know?”

Another dead silence.

The doctor went on.

“And the knife wounds aren’t from an ordinary fall. The Territory Guard is already investigating a break-in and arson the night it happened. Your house didn’t just catch fire.”

“What?” Nathan’s voice cracked. “A break-in?”

“There are clear signs of a struggle at the scene. The patient has blunt trauma to the abdomen and defensive knife wounds on her arms and back. She was forced to jump out that window.”

Everything outside went silent.

A few seconds later, the door opened.

I opened my eyes and saw Nathan standing by the bed, his face a terrifying shade of white.

His mouth opened, his voice tight.

“Mira, that night… was there someone else in the house?”

I turned my face away and didn’t look at him.

He reached out to touch me. His hand had barely lifted when the door opened again.

Lillian walked in with an insulated food carrier, her voice still soft and sweet.

“Nathan, I fixed you a pot of hearty broth. Don’t worry too much. Mira’s probably in on it with the doctor again, tricking you, just like before she always —”

SLAP!

His hand landed straight across her face.

Lillian’s head snapped to the side. She stood there, stunned.

“Nathan?”

“Get out.” His voice was terrifyingly low. “Get the hell out.”

She covered her cheek, tears spilling instantly.

“You HIT me?”

“I said GET OUT!”

He grabbed her wrist, dragged her to the door, and threw her out.

“If you hadn’t kept saying she was faking it, would I have locked her in the house alone? If you hadn’t insisted on that birthday, would I have ignored her calls?”

Lillian lost it, crying and shouting.

“How is that MY fault? YOU’RE the one who said she always makes false alarms! YOU’RE the one who personally told the Pack Emergency Center to leave her be!”

The second those words left her mouth, the room went dead silent.

Nathan froze.

Slowly, I turned my head and looked at him.

Just then, his phone rang.

“Alpha Nathan. We caught the suspect who broke into and torched your home that night. His account of the timeline lines up exactly with when Luna Mira called for help. We’ve also recovered your dispatch team’s shift logs and the linked notes. You need to come to Territory Guard headquarters right now to cooperate with the investigation.”

Nathan gripped the phone, veins standing out on the back of his hand.

“…I’ll be right there.”

He looked at me, his lips moved, but in the end he said nothing, turned, and rushed out.
