After They Sent Me Overseas, I Returned With a Powerful Husband Chapter 13

The sirens grew louder and louder until they stopped right outside the villa.

Cassian froze. “You called the cops?”

Rowan frowned, phone still in hand.

“I hadn’t even dialed yet.”

The color drained from Cassian’s face.

Without another word, he turned toward the window.

Red and blue lights flashed through the glass, washing over the walls in alternating bursts.

He closed his eyes.

When he opened them again, a middle-aged man in a jacket was already walking through the front door.

It was the same man who had let him go at the station that day.

The man stopped in the middle of the living room, taking in the blood covering the floor and Sienna’s barely conscious body before walking over to Cassian.

His expression barely changed, but his tone was colder than last time.

“Cassian. I remember telling you very clearly last time—don’t cross Mr. West.”

He stepped aside.

Behind him, uniformed officers had already blocked every exit.

“Let’s go. Looks like we’ll need you to take another trip to the station.”

Cassian stood rooted to the spot, his fists clenching, his knuckles turning white.

I didn’t learn that Cassian had been sentenced to life in prison until a week later.

That night, Evren sat beside me and handed me his phone.

I stared at the headline for a long time.

I recognized every word. Yet somehow, together, they didn’t feel real.

I had expected the case to drag on.

The Sterling family had too much influence. I assumed someone would find a way to protect him.

Evren didn’t offer much explanation.

“The evidence was overwhelming,” he said. “Pushing you down the stairs. Delaying medical treatment, which led to the miscarriage.”

“Then there was the recording of him instructing Dr. Vance not to save a pregnant patient.”

“Altogether, it was more than enough for a conviction.”

A faint smile crossed his face.

“And you had me.”

I nodded as though I understood.

What I didn’t know was that he had never told me about his meeting with Sienna.

Rowan was sentenced to twelve years for covering up the crime and helping destroy evidence.

I couldn’t say I missed them or I hated them anymore.

All I knew was that without them, my life probably would have gotten better much sooner.

I wouldn’t have taken such a long detour.

I wouldn’t have shed so much blood.

And I wouldn’t have lost my babies.

Later, my mother showed up once, pounding on the iron gate and screaming my name.

She called me heartless, ungrateful.

She said no matter what, she had given birth to me, and I was obligated to take care of her for the rest of her life.

Evren had his security escort her out. That was the last time I ever saw her.

Much later, I learned what became of Sienna.

She’d been bitten into a vegetative state.

She suffered extensive tearing injuries, followed by a severe infection that led to multiple organ failure.

After three months in the ICU, she was gone. No one was by her side.

Cassian was in prison. Rowan was serving his own sentence.

Even my mother never came.

She’d spent her entire life snatching at things—attention, affection, love, every tiny glimmer of light she saw in someone else’s hands.

In the end, she had nothing.

Not long after, Evren and I moved away.

We started over in a new city.

Every morning, he woke before I did.

I’d lie in bed beneath the blankets, listening to the sounds drifting in from the kitchen.

The sizzle of eggs in the pan.

The soft rumble of the coffee machine.

Sometimes he’d hum a tune hopelessly off-key.

I’d wake slowly to those sounds.

Then the bedroom door would open.

“Time to get up.”

He’d lean down and kiss my forehead.

“It’s beautiful out today. Let’s take a walk by the beach.”

Without opening my eyes, I’d slip my arms around his neck and gently

pull him closer. Our foreheads touched, and our noses brushed together.

“Evren. I really like you.”

He smiled. Then he lowered his head and pressed his lips gently to mine.

“I love you.”
