After They Sent Me Overseas, I Returned With a Powerful Husband Chapter 07

He was tall. The moment he walked in, his eyes found mine and never left.

My husband, Evren West.

The second I saw him, everything inside me shattered.

All the fear. All the pain. All the hurt I’d been holding back burst free at once.

“Honey…” The word barely left my lips before tears started falling again.

Cassian and Rowan both froze. They looked from me to the man, their brows furrowing at the same time.

Evren never slowed his pace. He walked straight to my bedside.

Without sparing anyone else a glance, he gently lifted my face to check for injuries.

He made sure I wasn’t hurt anywhere else before gently wiping away my tears.

Cassian and Rowan stood on either side of my bed.

Rowan’s hand still rested on my shoulder.

Cassian’s fingers hovered inches from my wrist.

Evren’s gaze paused on their hands.

That was all it took.

The two bodyguards behind him moved at the same time.

One grabbed Cassian. The other grabbed Rowan. With more than enough force, they shoved both men back a step.

After steadying himself, Cassian narrowed his eyes at Evren.

His voice came out lower than expected.

“Who the hell are you?”

Before anyone could answer, another man stumbled in.

The second he saw Evren, his legs gave out.

“Mr. West! I’m sorry!”

His whole body shook. Sweat streamed down his face.

“I had no idea she was your wife.”

“I didn’t know she was pregnant.”

“It was him!” He pointed frantically at Cassian.

“It was Mr. Sterling who told me not to save your wife! I swear I didn’t know she was carrying children!”

“He ordered me to do it. I didn’t know anything!”

By the time he finished speaking, all the color had drained from Cassian’s face.

He clenched his fists and stepped forward.

Two police officers immediately blocked his path.

“Cassian Sterling?” One of the officers spoke.

“You’re under investigation for attempted murder. You’ll need to come with us.”

Then he turned toward Rowan.

“Rowan Hale. You’re also coming with us on suspicion of aiding and concealing criminal conduct.”

Cassian stood between the officers, his lips pressed into a thin line. Then he looked at me.

I didn’t even want to look at him. I pressed my face against Evren’s chest and said nothing more.

My mother had watched everything unfold in stunned silence.

Now she finally snapped out of it.

She rushed toward Evren, trying to push past the bodyguards.

“So you’re the father of Ava’s child?”

“Then you owe us! She got pregnant before the wedding. Do you have any idea how shameful that is?”

“You need to answer to our family for this!”

Evren didn’t even look at her.

He raised a hand, and the bodyguards stepped in, keeping her at a distance.

She struggled wildly, trying to reach me. She never got close.

Evren didn’t turn to look at her until then.

“Ava and I were already married.”

My mother froze. “What? You married her? When?”

“I’m her mother. How could I not know?”

“Then you still have to pay! We didn’t raise her for nothing. You married her without paying a dime!”

She whipped around to glare at me.

“You ungrateful brat—you went behind our back and got married?”

“How much did he give you? How much did you pocket for yourself, you—”

“You are her mother.” Evren cut her off. His voice turned glacial.

He stood firmly in front of me. The weight of his gaze bore down on her, suffocating.

“And yet you know nothing about her. What gives you the right to stand here and demand money from me?”

Without waiting for an answer, he turned to his assistant.

“Take everyone who was involved.”

The sirens outside grew louder.

More officers poured in. Cassian, Rowan, even Dr. Vance—all of them were hauled out.

My mother was dragged away by two bodyguards, still screaming.

“I’m her mother! You can’t do this to me!”

No one listened.

At last, the room fell quiet. Only Evren and I remained.

He crouched down beside my bed.

Lowering his head, he gently rested his forehead against the back of my hand.

For a long time, he didn’t speak.

When he finally did, his voice was hoarse.

“I’m sorry. I was too late.”

I couldn’t get a single word out. I only shook my head.

My tears fell on the back of his hand, one after another, each one so hot it made his fingers tremble.

He didn’t move. After a long silence, he finally looked up.

His eyes were rimmed red, but the faint shimmer of tears was quickly suppressed—replaced by a deep coldness.

He wiped away the last tear on my face.

His voice was so soft only I could hear it.

“I’ll make every last one of them pay. Not a single one will get away.”
