After My Last Rewind, They Begged Me to Stay Chapter 05

Nathaniel couldn’t believe what he was seeing.

He shut his eyes, opened them again-the same blinding red still stained the floor.

It wasn’t until Weston let out a roar and threw himself down beside me that Nathaniel seemed to snap

awake, stumbling over as he ran.

All three of them dropped to their knees beside me.

Blood spread across the floor in rings, soaking through the fabric of their pants.

Julian’s face had gone bone white. He fell backward onto the floor.

“She’s not breathing. She’s… she’s dead.”

Weston pressed down hard on the wound in my chest, but blood kept welling up between his fingers no

matter what he did.

His mouth opened and closed several times before any sound came out.

“Eleanor can rewind after death. She can’t just die.”

“Wake up. Wake up, Eleanor. Look at me!”

He shook my body, frantic.

Nathaniel stared down at the blood pooling across the floor, and then, as if something had just occurred to

him, began to shake all over.

“The count… maybe it’s the count.”

His voice came out ragged, unrecognizable.

“The rewinds aren’t infinite. There was always a limit.”

Julian’s head snapped up. He stared at Nathaniel, his eyes widening slowly.

“You’re right. There was always a limit.”

“She already told us… she asked if we were afraid she wouldn’t come back.”

All three of them went still at once.

Nathaniel closed his eyes in despair, the back of his head hitting the wall.

Weston froze for two full seconds-then surged up off the floor and kicked Julian over.

‘This is on you! Why did you hand her the knife! You’re the one who killed her!”

Weston attacked Julian in a blind rage.

Julian coughed up blood but took every blow without a sound.

“Enough!” Nathaniel’s voice cut through. “This was a decision all three of us made.”

His eyes were bloodshot.

“If it hadn’t been for Sienna, we never would have-”

That was when they finally remembered her.

“Right. Sienna. Is she okay?”

All three scrambled up and ran for her room, bursting through the door.

Sienna was sitting up in bed, a cup of warm milk in her hands, her hair perfectly combed, her face spotless.

The moment she saw them, her eyes welled up instantly, tears splashing down.

“Nathaniel. Eleanor came to me again, said it served me right for losing the bracelet, asked why I didn’t just

go join my parents.”

Nathaniel’s gaze moved slowly down her face, across her wrist.

Clean. Smooth. Not a single mark on it.
