After My Last Rewind, They Begged Me to Stay Chapter 04

Nathaniel had lost every trace of his usual composure.

He strode across the room and shoved Weston aside.

“What did you do to Eleanor?!”

Weston wasn’t backing down.

“She stole Sienna’s necklace and bracelet. I’m just teaching her a lesson. What’s wrong with that?”

Nathaniel held up the necklace and the bracelet.

“Eleanor didn’t take Sienna’s things.”

“We wronged her,” he said, voice cracking.

“I just found these… in a drawer in my own room.”

The room went dead silent. Julian and Weston stared at me, unable to believe it.

Weston roared, “Why didn’t you say something?!”

He grabbed a handful of tissues, flustered, trying to wipe the blood off my face—but it only smeared worse.

He crumpled the tissue and threw it to the floor in frustration.

I turned my head to look at him, lips barely moving.

“Would you have listened if I had?”

Weston didn’t know how to answer.

Julian crouched in front of me, studying my wounds with a grim expression.

“I need to stop the bleeding right now, or you’ll lose too much blood.”

He sighed again.

“If you were just a little softer, a little sweeter, like Sienna—able to explain yourself, cry a little—it never would have come to this.”

I closed my eyes before he finished.

Once the three of them had calmed down, Julian spoke again.

“But why would Sienna’s necklace and bracelet be in Nathaniel’s room?”

Nathaniel froze.

That was the moment his question was cut off by the sound of frantic footsteps.

A maid burst in, white as a sheet.

“Sir. Miss Sienna just slit her wrists!”

All three of them spun around at once.

The maid’s voice cracked with sobs.

“There’s blood all over her bedroom floor. She said she lost her parents’ keepsake and doesn’t want to live anymore. Please, go see her now!”

Their faces changed in an instant.

They were about to run for the door when something seemed to occur to all three of them at once.

They turned, together, and looked at me.

Weston rushed over, gripping my shoulders.

“Eleanor. Rewind, right now. Go save her.”

I opened my eyes and looked at him. His face was desperate.

“Don’t be difficult right now. I know we wronged you just now, but Sienna’s innocent. Don’t let her die over this.”

I said quietly, “Aren’t you afraid I might not come back this time?”

His grip loosened. He froze.

Julian stared down at me, his face cold.

“Saving someone is nothing to you—a little pain, that’s all. Why are you making this into something?”

Weston seized on that like a lifeline.

“Right. Nothing’s ever gone wrong all these years. What could possibly happen this time?”

Nathaniel finally spoke.

“Eleanor, I know you’re upset with us. But please, think of the bigger picture.”

“I promise—once you save Sienna, we’ll make it up to you.”

A cold laugh slipped out of my throat.

A muscle in Nathaniel’s jaw tightened into a knot. Julian’s eyes dropped, his face darkening. Weston’s fists clenched.

“Yes or no. If you won’t do it, we’ll do it ourselves!”

“Fine. I’ll do it.”

All three of them froze, as if they hadn’t expected me to agree so easily.

“Don’t try anything,” Julian said, suspicious.

I held my hand out toward him.

He hesitated, then handed me the scalpel.

I gripped the handle and pressed it against my own chest.

Nathaniel’s heart lurched.

“Wait—what are you—”

Before he finished, the blade was already in. Blood welled from the wound.

I closed my eyes.

All three of their hearts skipped a beat. A wave of unease coiled tight in their chests.

Nathaniel swallowed hard.

“It’s fine. Everything’s about to reset. We won’t even remember.”

Julian and Weston nodded.

Once it reset, all the wrongful blame, all the pain—it would simply dissolve like smoke.

The three of them closed their eyes and waited quietly.

But minute after minute passed, and finally they couldn’t help but open their eyes again.

Nothing had changed.

The knife was still in my chest. I lay motionless on the floor.
