After I Left, His Empire Collapsed Chapter 29

Of course she did.

At the office, Sadie spent her days either flirting with Dylan or scrolling TikTok. Not once did she handle a client. Couldn’t read a contract. Couldn’t operate Excel. Couldn’t make a PowerPoint.

She coasted entirely on her relationship with Dylan. Palmed off her actual work to whoever drew the short straw.

Now, in front of a roomful of suits, she had nothing. Could do nothing. Just stood there, a prop, while everyone behind her exchanged glances.

I spoke into the phone. Calm.

“Apologies. I was indeed fired. All company matters are no longer my concern.”

“If you need new designs, I suggest you find someone else.”

The rep’s face went stony. He closed the folder. Stood.

“In that case. We will initiate legal proceedings immediately. Full contractual damages. Termination of all partnerships.”

“We will notify industry associations. Global supply platforms. We’ll make this a case study.”

“Anyone who works with you after this does so at their own risk.”

Each word was a nail in a coffin.

Dylan’s breathing turned ragged. He was fighting to hold it together.

“Wait. There’s been a misunderstanding. Give us time—”

The rep cut him off.

“Ten minutes. Unless you can bring Ms. Vance back here with a reasonable explanation and results.”

“Otherwise, our legal team will contact industry representatives. We’ll handle this the Sterling & Sterling way.”

The folder smacked the table. Louder than DeVries’s fist had ever been.

For one brief moment, I almost pitied him. The man who thought he was untouchable.

Almost. Then it passed.

Some bills come due. And nobody else was paying his.
