After I Dressed as a Man, He Mistook Me for His Rival Chapter 15

Under hundreds of eyes, the dean of students wiped sweat from his forehead and tried to restore order.

At the same time, he kept shooting me silent looks, telling me to play along.

I said nothing.

I dropped the microphone, grabbed Maribel by the wrist, and dragged her outside.

Tavish looked anxious. He wanted to explain for me.

I stopped and turned back, giving him a small smile.

“No. I want to handle this myself.”

“And thank you.”

I hesitated for a second before saying his name, softer than I meant to.

“Tavish.”

Then I pulled Maribel toward the outer wall.

She yanked her hand free and sneered.

“You hooked one guy and lied to another.”

“I’m telling Mom.”

“You’re so dead, Sutton. Mom’s going to lose it.”

I thought I wouldn’t be hurt anymore, but the grief still tore through me.

I suddenly grabbed her by the collar and shoved her back against the wall, my eyes burning red.

“Why?”

“Why do you keep doing this to me? I was so good to you.”

“Why, Maribel?”

The way I said her name seemed to cut her.

Her face crumpled, and she started crying.

“Because everyone likes you. Everyone cares about you.”

“I don’t get it. Mom and Dad always look at you like they owe you something. They’re always telling me…”

“They say you’ve already given up so much. They tell me not to fight with you.”

She sobbed. “When we were kids, those teddy bears were supposed to be mine. You were the boy. You were supposed to let me have them.”

“It’s the same now. If I want something, you’re supposed to give it to me.”

“That’s what little brothers do.”

Her voice broke. “What right do you have to take Lachlan from me?”

Maribel cried like she was the one who had been wronged.

At last, I spoke, my voice was very soft. “You want to know why?”

Her crying stopped.

I looked at her calmly.

“Because I’m a girl.”

“I’m your sister.”

She froze. “No.”

My hands clenched at my sides.

We stood so close, staring at each other.

Her reflection was in my eyes. Mine was in hers.

Our faces were so similar.

I bit down hard on my lip and said each word clearly.

“You were born weak. Mom and Dad wanted you to feel safe. They wanted to make it up to you, so they changed my records.”

“They made me live as a boy so I would never compete with you.”

“So I would spend my life protecting you.”

I gave a small, bitter smile.

“It worked, didn’t it? You were happy. Mom never had to worry about being fair. A little brother letting his big sister win sounded perfectly natural.”

“Everything stayed nice and peaceful.”

Maribel stared at me, disbelief filling her eyes.

“No,” she whispered. “No, that can’t be. How could that…”

I let out a quiet laugh.

“If anyone should be crying right now, shouldn’t it be me?”

“For seventeen years, I was trapped inside this lie, and I couldn’t get out.”

Maribel seemed to lose all strength at once.

She slid down, trembling all over.

“No. How is that possible? You’re lying. You’re lying to me.”

I wiped the tears from the corner of my eyes like I didn’t care.

“As for why they feel guilty toward me, they should.”

“Because I’m their daughter too. What right did they have to treat me like I mattered less?”

“And you…”

I looked down at her.

“As my actual sister, what right do you have to question me?”

“You got everything.”

Her lips trembled, but no words came out.

My voice turned hoarse.

“And as for Lachlan’s feelings, the ones you’re so obsessed with?”

“They only make me tired.”

“The moment I deleted that account, he had nothing to do with me anymore.”

“Even if I’m a girl, I still wouldn’t like him.”

Maribel’s eyes shifted slightly.

I turned around.

At the end of the hallway, my gaze met Lachlan’s.

He looked completely lost. His face was deathly pale.
