After I Dressed as a Man, He Mistook Me for His Rival Chapter 14

After I Dressed as a Man, He Mistook Me for His Rival Chapter 14

Maribel cried hard.

When I went to find her, I heard her crying to a girl in her class.

“What am I supposed to do? Lachlan really won’t talk to me anymore.”

“He said he only dated me because he mistook me for someone else. He blames me because I didn’t know anything about that Instagram account, but I still let him think it was mine.”

“I apologized. I really did. I don’t know what else to do…”

“I’m going to find that girl. This is all her fault.”

I placed the workbook gently on the windowsill.

Then I left.

When final grades were posted, I had the highest score in the school.

The head of school even came by our house to congratulate us. She smiled as she took Mom’s hands.

“So this is your son, Mrs. Ashwick.”

“I see where he gets it from. You never told us you had someone this brilliant at home.”

Mom was genuinely happy that day.

Her cheeks were flushed.

When it was time to take a photo, she wanted me to stand beside her.

I instinctively avoided her hand.

The air froze.

The head of school quickly tried to smooth things over. “Looks like he’s closer to his father.”

“I’m not close to either of them,” I said flatly.

“If there’s nothing else, I’m going to my room to study.”

The visit ended there, awkward and unfinished.

That night, when I got up to use the bathroom, I heard Mom quietly sobbing on the couch for the first time.

The floating comments appeared.

[Honestly… the mom is pitiful too. Yes, she changed Sutton’s records, but she did love her all these years.]

[When Sutton had a fever, she stayed up all night watching over her.]

[She just doesn’t know how to express love. She gave all of it to the older sister and had nothing left for the younger one.]

One voice in my heart said I was cruel.

Another voice said, Sutton, don’t cry. You have the right not to forgive them.

In the end, I said nothing.

I closed the door.

At the school awards ceremony, my homeroom advisor asked me to prepare a short speech.

I had just picked up the microphone when Maribel suddenly rushed out from backstage, crying as she threw that phone at my face.

“You’re the one who lied to Lachlan online, aren’t you?”

“You’re disgusting, Sutton. Do you know that?”

“You actually like a guy?”

Her voice rang through the whole auditorium.

The crowd erupted.

Tavish rushed forward and pulled her back. “What the hell are you saying?”

“There are hundreds of people here. Are you trying to destroy Sutton?”

Maribel struggled hard, her eyes red.

“Liking a boy is disgusting. It’s shameless. I’m saving him!”

Down below, Lachlan happened to look up.

He watched me calmly.

In the middle of all the noise, he didn’t confirm it.

He didn’t deny it either.

The floating comments screamed.

[God, the male lead is so rotten. Maribel making this public is exactly what he wanted, isn’t it?]
[He’s been jealous seeing Tavish and Sutton get so close lately, but he keeps pretending he doesn’t care.]

[Am I the only one who thinks this is awful? Did he ever think about what this would do to her reputation?]

I thought, probably not.

After all, Lachlan Crest was a liar.

Every promise he made me…

He broke them all.
