After Discovering My Billionaire Parents Lied, I Vanished for Good Chapter 09

The next day, Sophie got shipped off to boarding school. She fought him tooth and nail.

Two years slipped by in hollow, unfeeling silence.

Garrett’s health began deteriorating rapidly. He was plagued by persistent fatigue, frequent dizzy spells, and constant limb weakness, drained of all vitality at all hours.

He went to the hospital for a checkup, and ran into a familiar figure outside the maternity ward. A man pacing nervously.

“Derek?”

The anxious man was the guy his ex-wife had supposedly cheated with — her first love, actually.

Derek Miller spun around. “Mr. Whitmore.”

“What are you doing here?”

“My wife’s in labor. She’s having complications.”

“You’re married?”

“Eight years now. For eight years. We struggled for a long time to conceive, and now we’re facing this crisis.” Derek looked like he might cry.

Garrett’s jaw tightened. “The woman in there… it’s not Elena, is it?”

Derek blinked. “Elena? No. We haven’t spoken since she married you. She said she didn’t want to cause any trouble, and she was focused on building your business with you. She’s a good woman, Mr. Whitmore. You should cherish her.”

Garrett froze for what felt like minutes. “You’re sure you two haven’t had contact?”

“Positive. She blocked me everywhere. On top of that, I was stationed out of state managing a regional branch for more than a decade. Only came back because my wife got pregnant.”

“Then what about that video?”

“Video?” Derek looked lost. “What video?”

“The one where you said you and Elena had a son together.”

Derek flinched. His gaze darted toward the still-closed delivery room door before he dropped his voice into a urgent whisper. “Mr. Whitmore, don’t joke about that. If my wife hears it, she’ll divorce me. I swear I never recorded anything.”

He paused. “Wait… so the rumors are true? You and Elena actually split?”

Garrett didn’t answer. He turned and walked out without getting his tests done.

At home, he found Vanessa berating the maid. His fingers dug into her skin hard enough to bruise. All the fatigue and dizziness he’d been feeling vanished, replaced by white-hot rage.

He’d been played. Played for a fool, for years. And he’d destroyed his family over it.

“The video you showed me… was it fake?”

“You did this on purpose, didn’t you? You made me believe Aiden wasn’t my son! You sent that recording to Elena and pushed her out. Did you?”

Vanessa froze for a second. She nodded without a second of hesitation. “Yes. The video was fake. I sent the recording. Because you kept dragging your feet, year after year! I was just securing what belonged to me and my son.”

“Bitch!” He slapped her hard.

She laughed through the pain. “Go ahead, hit me. See how much strength you have left. Let’s see how much broken strength you have left in your failing body.”
