After Discovering My Billionaire Parents Lied, I Vanished for Good Chapter 07

The bounty hit the streets. Havenwood went wild. Every drifter and opportunist scrambled to comb the streets for leads.

Days bled into weeks, and still nothing surfaced.

Elena cried every night. But she noticed Garrett growing distant, less interested in the search. While she was drowning in guilt, he went to galas.

One night, he returned home dead drunk, and Elena finally reached her breaking point.

She swept everything off the coffee table. Glass shattered across the floor.

Garrett blinked at the mess. “What the hell is wrong with you?”

“I’m crazy?” She got in his face, eyes blazing. “Our son is missing! Maybe dead! And you’re out drinking?”

“I did everything I could. What else can I do if we can’t find him?”

His dismissive, unconcerned tone ignited her fury entirely. She raised her hand and struck him across the cheek.

“I never wanted this! You and your ‘tough love’, only that kind of son could inherit your precious company?”

Garrett rubbed his cheek. “I’m not wrong. My son will never be a nobody!”

“Enough!” Elena screamed. “Stop pretending you’re doing this for him! You’ve been lying to me for years! How long were you going to keep it up?”

“Lie about what?”

“You believed some rumor that Aiden wasn’t yours. You hated me for cheating! And you took every bit of that hatred out on him!”

His face hardened. “Who told you that?”

“Listen for yourself.”

She shoved her phone at him. A sixty-second audio file sat on the screen.

A flicker of hesitation crossed his eyes before he pressed play.

He held the phone like it might bite him. The first line hit, and his jaw tightened. By the middle, his knuckles were white around the device.

“Garrett, when are you going to legitimize our son? We’ve waited ten years.”

His blood ran cold. He shot a glance at Elena, then kept listening.

“Soon.”

“You always say that. He keeps asking who his father is. And you told me the boy at home isn’t even yours, that your wife had him with another man. Why raise someone else’s child?”

His recorded voice echoed, “That little brat at home won’t last much longer. Give me time.”

“How long?”

“A year or two at most. I’ll reclaim her shares, cast both of them out, and bring you and our legitimate son home for good.”

“One year. That’s all I’m giving you.”

The recording ended.

Garrett looked up. “Who sent this?”

Elena’s laugh was hollow. “Who else? Your precious Vanessa Rhodes.”

Garrett fell completely silent, no denial or excuse left to speak.

“No excuses? No more lies?”
