After Breaking Up with the Mafia Don, All My Resources Were Stolen Chapter 04

Enzo knew why I had dumped him.

But afterward, he never explained a single word.

And because I had humiliated him by announcing the breakup in public, he let me suffer years of ridicule and cold treatment in this industry.

Because he was the heir to the largest mafia Family in North America.

Even now, when both of us knew who had been wrong, I was still the one who greeted him first.

“Don Enzo.”

Enzo frowned slightly. His voice was low.

“I’m still used to you calling me by your name.”

I had called his name countless times before.

“Enzo, I’m almost done filming. I’ll come find you for dinner.”

“Enzo, you’ve been away on business for a week. When are you coming back?”

“Enzo, I miss you so much.”

Six years had passed, but the tone I once used to act spoiled and tell Enzo I missed him was still painfully clear.

A trace of regret I should not have felt rose in my chest.

I smiled and shook my head.

“You are the Family heir, and Miss Ricci said you two are getting married soon. It isn’t appropriate for me to call you by your first name anymore. Congratulations.”

Enzo said, “Do you think I can still get married now?”

Even if Sofia was still willing to marry him and become a stepmother the moment she entered the Family, the Ricci elders cared about face. They definitely would not agree anymore.

I had ruined his good thing again.

“I’m sorry,” I said quickly.

“The child?”

Enzo finally asked the real question of the night.

That child who had been exposed so suddenly, yet whom no one had ever seen.

He was displeased. His tone darkened.

“Why didn’t you tell me you were pregnant back then?”

I didn’t know at first.

By the time I found out, Enzo and I had already broken up.

“I didn’t want a child to come between you and Miss Ricci.”

Enzo gave a cold laugh.

“You hid it for six years, and it still got exposed. Did that make the impact any smaller?”

“I’m sorry.”

I did not know what else to say besides those three words.

Not long after I first got together with Enzo, someone warned me that Enzo liked obedient girls.

But I could not pretend to be obedient.

I had been young then. I thought one relationship could last a lifetime. Who could pretend for a lifetime?

So in front of Enzo, I threw tantrums and acted spoiled. He did not really know how to coax me, but he never held it against me either.

Usually, once I finished venting, I was fine.

Back then, I had been alive.

Bright and heated and real.

Not like the woman Enzo saw now.

Smooth, restrained, and stripped of her true self.

He asked again, “Where is the child?”

“There is no child.”

From the moment I found out, I never planned to keep it.

A man who did not love me would not love the child I gave birth to.

And I had never planned to become a single mother.

Light exploded in Enzo’s eyes, ripping open the dark sea there and

finally letting me see his emotions.

He actually cared about that unborn child.

I had not expected that.

Did he care about his own unborn child?

Or had there once been a tiny bit of him that truly loved me?
