After Breaking Up with the Mafia Don, All My Resources Were Stolen Chapter 01

After Breaking Up with the Mafia Don, All My Resources Were Stolen Chapter 01

Before I got out of the car and stepped onto the red carpet, my manager Coco reminded me over and over, “If you run into Sofia Ricci, pretend you don’t see her. Do not clash with her again.”

Sofia’s backer was that man.

Enzo Vitale.

Half of Hollywood’s commercial empire belonged to the Vitale Family. From film studios to streaming platforms, from awards shows to talent agencies, Vitale mafia money and power were behind all of it.

There used to be a saying among performers in the industry.

If you wanted fame, sleep with Enzo.

It was crude, but it was true. Every woman who had even the faintest connection to Enzo had a smooth ride in Hollywood. Scripts, endorsements, awards. Whatever they wanted, they got.

Except me.

I was the only woman who had publicly dated Enzo and nearly been blacklisted after we broke up.

Because I had offended his childhood sweetheart.

For six years after that, no matter how hard I worked and no matter how much audiences and critics praised my acting, I never won a single award.

Again and again, I became the perennial bridesmaid. It wore down every sharp edge I had.

I stopped appearing at the same events as Sofia. Any script she showed interest in, I declined with the excuse of a scheduling conflict.

Maybe my silent surrender had finally worked.

Or maybe she and Enzo were about to get married, and she no longer cared about someone as insignificant as me.

So this time, they stopped blocking me. They handed me an award as if it were spare change.

When Coco heard the news, she almost cried.

She said, “Jade, the hard days are finally over.”

Enzo was finally willing to let me go.

Even though the breakup had not been my fault, I truly could not fight the Vitale Family. I could not fight him.

I gave up a long time ago.

One second after Coco warned me not to clash with Sofia again, Sofia deliberately invited me to walk the red carpet with her.

The Vitale heir’s ex and current fiancée standing side by side. Just that image alone was enough to send every gossip account into a frenzy.

I knew she wanted to humiliate me from every angle.

Not only because she was now Enzo’s fiancée, but also because the gowns we wore tonight were from the same brand.

Except hers was the newest couture piece.

Mine was last year’s design.

I could already imagine social media tearing me apart later. Her fans and my haters would mock me for looking cheap, outdated, and unsupported.

But it was fine.

I had never planned to compete with her through clothes.

And I would never expect Enzo to come back to me.

If she wanted to be the red rose, then I would be the green leaf that made her shine.

But Sofia still seemed unsatisfied. She lowered her voice and asked, “Jade, do you know Enzo is coming tonight?”

I did not know.

From the day Enzo and I broke up, everything between us had been cut clean.

But the moment I heard his name, my steps still faltered.

Sofia caught it, and her smile turned mocking.

“Don’t overthink it. He’s coming for me. It has nothing to do with you.”

“I know.”

Although half of Hollywood’s capital belonged to the Vitale Family, Enzo had never attended entertainment events before today. Even when we were most in love, he had never once shown up for me.

Sofia added, “Enzo and I are getting married soon.”

I nodded, turned, and gave her a sincere smile.

“I wish you both happiness.”

Maybe I had acted too weak tonight, because Sofia seemed to lose interest in toying with me.

Or maybe she was in a hurry to find Enzo.

As soon as the red carpet ended, she left me behind and disappeared.

I cooperated with the reporters, posed for photos, and answered a few questions.

The reporters were all careful. No one mentioned Enzo.

Back then, our relationship had been loud and passionate, but the ending had been too ugly.

Enzo himself only learned that he had been dumped when he saw the trending topic on social media.

That interview had originally been meant to gossip about my relationship with Enzo.

But facing the camera, I had only said calmly, “We broke up.”

No warning.

No reason.
