After Amnesia, I Took Back Everything I Gave My Football Star Boyfriend Chapter 10

I turned around.

Leon stood at the far end of the narrow hallway.

He had clearly rushed over straight from the training facility. He was still wearing his team hoodie, and the wind had left his black hair slightly disheveled across his forehead.

The dim lighting made his sharp features look even more striking.

His cedar scent and ice-cold Alpha presence quickly overwhelmed Caden’s chaotic amber scent.

The wolf that had been silent inside my chest let out another low growl.

Leon walked up to me, his smile edged with obvious displeasure.

“Miss Winter, are you here shopping for a replacement?”

At nearly six foot four, he was overwhelmingly imposing when he looked down at me.

A flicker of guilt went through me.

But then I remembered the endless rumors surrounding him over the years and decided I had every right to question him too.

“It’s work.”

Leon nodded and walked into the private dining room.

His gaze finally settled on Caden, and his smile instantly turned into cold contempt.

“The real thing is standing right here. The men she met tonight only resemble you. What makes you think you’re irreplaceable?”

I didn’t answer.

He had gone straight to the heart of the problem.

Then he thought it over and let out an irritated laugh.

“Erin, I thought getting one Caden out of your life would be enough.”

“I didn’t realize you were planning to find replacements for him.”

“You’re always saying you like good-looking men.”

“Am I ugly or something?”

Leon was obviously not ugly.

I spent the entire night thinking it over and couldn’t name a single star player in the league who surpassed him in looks, ability, or presence.

By the end of the night, I had confirmed one deeply troubling fact: I liked Leon.

For more than a decade, I had seen him as my best friend and strongest rival.

Worse, there were so many rumors about his private life that verifying them all was nearly impossible.

But I refused to waste my time endlessly guessing.

Obsessing over whether a man loved me would only take time away from work.

The next day, I did my makeup and went straight to the New York Empire’s practice facility in New Jersey.

Leon was in a film session.

His assistant led me into the lounge.

“Miss Winter, the meeting should be over in about twenty minutes.”

“That’s fine. I’ll wait for him.”

Through the glass, I watched Leon in his training gear, wearing a headset as he carefully analyzed game footage.

It reminded me of something that had happened years ago.

When he first entered the league, he always refused to wear suits to sponsor events.

“My ability to throw a football is in my arm and my brain, not in a tie.”

Eventually, both the brands and the team’s public relations staff started complaining.

Mrs. Carter later came to me and asked me to talk some sense into him.

I casually sent Leon several photos of muscular male models wearing suits.

“Suits really show off a man’s body.”

“Leon, do you think you could look this good in one?”

From that day on, he not only wore suits to every event, but practically changed into a new one for every postgame press conference.

He had been childish since we were young. Nothing bothered him more than hearing me suggest another man might be better than him.

Twenty minutes later, the meeting ended.

Leon removed his headset, surprise flashing across his face when he saw me.

“Erin, who are you thinking about that has you smiling like that in my training center?”

The warmth I had felt a moment ago vanished instantly.

I stared at his infuriating face, remembered that I had somehow fallen for him, and felt even more frustrated.

“Leon, I came here today to make an announcement.”

Assuming I wanted to discuss a business partnership, he casually picked up his water and leaned against the table, waiting for me to continue.

I paused for a second.

“I like you.”

“I also believe you’re interested in me.”

“So tell me exactly where you stand romantically, and we’ll decide how to move forward.”

“I have a video call with my Chicago office in an hour, so keep it brief.”

Leon spat out the water he had just sipped.
