He cried out.

Eleanor’s face changed, and she rushed over to snatch the stack of trust documents I had placed on the bedside table.

“You’re trying to destroy evidence! Julian!”

I sidestepped her, and she missed, her heel landing on the scattered pieces of the paintings. She lost her balance, stumbled into the open suitcase, and fell.

But as she went down, her long, sharp nails raked a cut across my arm.

I sucked in a sharp breath.

Just then, the door opened.

Julian stood in the doorway, his face dark as he took in the scene.

Eleanor froze for a second, then immediately sat up on the floor, clutching her ankle as tears welled on command.

“Julian, you’re finally back. Clara’s lost her mind. She tried to destroy the trust documents, and she attacked me and Leo.”

Leo immediately held up his reddened wrist.

“Dad, look. She nearly twisted my hand off. And she pushed Mom.”

Julian’s gaze swept over Leo’s wrist, then moved to me, and finally landed on Maya, who was hiding behind me.
