Addicted to Captive Love The Mafia Godfather’s Substitute Heiress Chapter 01

Celandine’s POV

At seven in the morning at the Wynn estate, I walked down the spiral staircase.

Morning light poured through the floor-to-ceiling windows, scattering broken patches of gold across the Persian rug.

Papa was reading The Wall Street Journal, with a list of traitors scheduled for execution that day lying in front of him. Madre was pouring espresso from a small silver pot, and Jovan was idly toying with his car keys. The seat beside Papa, where Thierry usually sat, was empty today. Instead, Briony, the Wynn family’s long-lost blood daughter, had taken that seat.

I stood there for a few seconds, forcing down the dull ache in my chest before slowly walking over.

Briony was the first to notice me. She looked up and smiled.

“Why are you up so early today?”

She was starting to look more and more like me.

Three days ago, Briony had been injured during a construction-site survey and was taken to the Wynn family’s private hospital.

After a blood test, Madre discovered that Briony was the long-lost blood daughter of the Wynn family.

On the day Briony came home, she hugged Papa, then hugged Madre, and finally turned to look at me.

Her gaze lingered on my face for too long.

While I stood there anxiously clutching the hem of my dress, she suddenly pulled me into her arms.

“So you’re Celandine?”

“Why do you look like a little kitten? Pale skin, big round eyes.”

I tried to struggle free quietly.

But Briony was half a head taller than me, and her frame was larger, too.

One of her arms locked around my waist while the other looped around my neck. Her grip was strong enough to hurt.

She buried her face in my hair and inhaled deeply.

“You smell so good. What perfume do you use?”

The next day, I smelled the same scent on her.

On the third day, she cut her hair like mine and wore my necklace.

I understood.

Briony wanted to replace me and become the only Principessa of the Wynn family.

I did not hate her.

The wealth and privilege I had enjoyed for the past twenty-one years had been stolen from her from the start.

If she wanted them back, it was only fair.

There was only one thing no one was allowed to touch, and he was locked away by my own hand in a basement that never saw daylight.

I spread butter over my bread with a table knife while listening to Madre arrange the welcome ball.

“We’ll hold it the day after tomorrow afternoon. I ordered new jewelry for both of you.”

Then she said with fond exasperation, “Thierry is impossible. He said he was dealing with that Polish crew, but something this big happened at home, and he hasn’t even called.”

“And with his condition, who knows if he’s been taking his medication on time.”

My ears perked up.

Jovan cut in jokingly, “What, did some enemy crew kidnap him?”

Everyone laughed. “With his build and the combat skills of a former Marine? Who could possibly take him?”

Only my hand paused.

My stomach sank as if someone had dropped a block of lead into it.

Thierry really had been taken.

I had tied him up myself.

I forced a faint smile and said quietly, “I’m full. I’m going to school.”

Briony’s head snapped up. “That’s all you’re eating? I baked cookies. Take some with you.”

I politely turned down her kindness, picked up my bag, and headed out.

As I left, I vaguely heard Jovan’s teasing voice behind me.

“Hey, how does it feel to be treated like the rightful Wynn daughter’s carbon-copy doll? Not great, huh?”

My heart sank.

Was I really a carbon-copy doll?
