A Letter from Alpha After Ten Years Chapter 08

Sophie was six when her mother led her into Liam’s yard.

“This is Liam’s mom, Mommy’s best friend.” Her mother crouched down, straightened her collar. “When Mommy’s gone, she will take care of you-just like I did.”

The door opened. A boy ran in holding a popsicle. He spotted her and held it out.

“Here. Have it.”

She took the popsicle.

Syrup stuck to her fingers. Cool.

From that day on, she called him Liam.

Liam’s mother said, “Sophie’s mom and I were best friends. Sophie’s my daughter now. That means you two take care of each other, like brother and sister.”

He nodded, smiled, and tapped her nose.

She decided Liam was her salvation.

At fifteen, she saw him walking with another girl for the first time.

They walked out of school together.

So she staged a lone wolf attack.

She saved him and shattered her own wolf-just to make him feel guilty forever.

Every time he got close to someone else, she’d take his razor into the bathroom.

The bathwater would slowly turn pink.

The door would burst open. His voice would shake.

She did this many times. She thought if she kept bleeding, he’d never leave.

Serena appeared when she was nineteen.

Liam brought her to Sophie and said this is Serena.

Sophie smiled, called her sister-in-law sweetly.

But the fire in her heart burned.

She sat in the bathroom that night for a long time, the blade in her hand.

She told herself-they just bonded. If she asked, he’d come back Just like before

But Liam didn’t break the mark. He’d sworn a lifetime bond with Serena

She was sick with jealousy.

When she heard Serena wanted a pink diamond for her bonding ring, Sophie spent a fortune to

snatch that Argyle at auction.

When the ring slid onto her finger, she had one thought: No one can take this from me.

She begged Liam to grant her wish. She gambled he’d say yes.

She won.

Liam, ignoring Serena’s objections, agreed to a bonding ceremony with her.

They signed the severance.

Ceremony day, she stood on the steps in white, holding Liam’s arm.

Her dream had finally come true.

Watching Serena in the crowd, the sweetness curdled in her throat.

One obstacle still stood in her way. And then she knew exactly what to do. “The ring is gone!”

She watched Liam force Serena’s ring off her finger.

Finger by finger. Blood dripping.

She looked at the blue diamond in her hand. Triumph surged through her.

Later Serena left, and Liam followed her to the island. So Sophie followed too.

She stood before him, clutching his sleeve, begging.

Then Serena walked by and said she didn’t love him anymore.

Sophie thought she’d won.

She screamed it out, voice piercing.

But Liam slapped her. “Even if she doesn’t love me, I won’t choose you.

In the end, she was just a sister to him.

A sister he was increasingly sick of.

The man she loved most had bared his fangs at her.

She threatened him again. Her blood ran across the floor.

But this time, Liam never looked back.

He had her sent back to the pack. And locked in a psychiatric ward.
