A Letter from Alpha After Ten Years Chapter 01

A Letter from Alpha After Ten Years Chapter 01

My Alpha mate from ten years in the future suddenly wired millions into my account.

And left a message in my notes app: [If you’re really Serena Blackwood from ten years ago, please leave me.]

I sent back a question mark.

Then another line appeared on its own: [I’m Liam Gray from ten years in the future. Remember when I said I wanted to hold a bonding rite with Sophie?]

Of course I remembered.

Sophie was his childhood friend. She’d loved him without return, gone to extremes, threatened suicide.

Liam proposed a bonding ceremony with Sophie—just the ritual, not the actual bond—to fulfill her wish.

I tore up the severance agreement and forced him to choose between her and me.

He’d given in. Promised to stay out of Sophie’s life.

[One year from now, Sophie will waste away and die. We’ll fight endlessly. Both of us will lose.]

[I don’t understand. She’s just a sister I watched grow up. Why couldn’t you let it go after she died?]

[I begged the Moon Goddess a thousand times to reach you. I’m asking you to leave now.]

“Trust me. A week from now, you’ll start a new life.”

Tears splattered against the screen. I typed my answer in the notes.

[Okay.]

Day Seven.

Liam got home at three in the morning.

“Something came up at the border of the pack. I have to handle it. Might not be back for a couple days. Don’t wait up.”

I murmured something absent, my eyes still stuck on the notes app.

[That was a lie. There’s no border issue. Sophie cut her wrist again—fifth time today. You know her wolf’s dormant, so even a tiny cut could kill her. So I went to the pack hospital to sit with her.]

The first time the notes app spit out text, I thought it was a prank.

Words appeared on the screen line by line, claiming to be Liam from ten years in the future.

He said Sophie would call, and Liam picked up his phone and went to the balcony.

He said he bought Sophie a gift, and a package appeared at the door.

For a month now, I’d been watching my mate follow a script—step by step, exactly as written.

My wolf was shredded from the betrayal, but even on her last breath, she couldn’t stop whimpering in my chest.

I typed: [What do you mean by ‘new life’ in a week?]

[Remember that tech stock I told you to buy? Dividends hit in the next couple days. Good return.]

[There’s a remote island in the South Pacific. No one will find you there.]

I bit my lip. “How do you know about that place?”

The notes went still. After a long pause, his answer appeared.

[I came here to get away from you.]

Day Six.

Morning. A bank alert lit up my phone.

A long string of zeros had appeared after my balance.

Twenty million.

The notes lit up.

[Did the money hit? That’s enough to buy your freedom. Keep your promise. I want to change our tragedy.]

The screen flickered. Another line.

[Sophie means a lot to me. She’s the most important person in my life…one of them.]

I watched him fumble for words. And remembered the first time he introduced her.

“This is my neighbor’s kid sister.” His hand settled on her shoulder, easy and familiar. “Sophie, say hi to your sister-in-law.”

“Hi, Serena!” Sophie beamed. “I’m practically Liam’s sister—we go way back.”

Liam smiled, soft, and tapped her nose with his finger.

Back then, I thought it was just brotherly affection.

Then she started showing up everywhere. Shopping trips. Meals. Even our bonding anniversaries. She was always there.

“Her parents work for the Alpha King. She basically grew up in our house. She just gets a little attached sometimes.”

“Serena, don’t hold it against her. You’re always the most important person to me—you know that. We’re fated mates. The Moon Goddess picked us.”

Looking into his earnest eyes, I swallowed my hurt.

Snapping back to the present, I typed my reply.

“Liam, I’m letting you go. I hope you’re happy.”
