Over the next few days, Brianna hardly left my side.

She fluttered around me like a little sparrow, chattering nonstop.

I knew exactly why.

She was terrified I’d dwell on Aaron and slow my recovery, so she kept trying to distract me.

One day, she suddenly looked at me guiltily.

“Di, I need to confess something.”

“What is it?”

“The day you asked me to send Aaron that box… I didn’t put the pup in there.”

“But I printed out a bunch of the pup’s checkup photos and slipped them inside.”

“Aaron looked completely wrecked when he opened it.”

She studied my face carefully.

“You’re not mad, are you?”

I shook my head.

“He’s the pup’s father too.”

“There’s nothing wrong with letting him see what he killed.”

Brianna visibly relaxed.

“But even though you rejected him, you two already completed the mate ceremony.”

“According to Wolf Council law, you’re still legally bonded. The bond doesn’t end until the elders approve it and issue a termination certificate.”

“Until then, he can still find other ways to repair the bond between you.”

“He’s the Alpha of the Stormridge Pack. It would be easy for him to tamper with the mate bond termination.”

She groaned. “Ugh, I’m so stupid! I should’ve just kept my mouth shut and waited.”

I was calmer than even I expected.

“As long as there’s evidence that he betrayed his mate, the Wolf Council is required to grant the mate bond termination.”

“Don’t worry. I’ll get the evidence.”

Two weeks later, the mate bond termination still hadn’t been approved.

That was far beyond the normal processing time.

Brianna’s fears had come true.

Meanwhile, Juliet kept harassing me, pressuring me to leave Aaron as soon as possible.

She was handing me evidence on a silver platter.

I sent her a message.

[Fine. I’m going to meet Aaron in person today and follow up on the mate bond termination.]

“Stay the hell away from him.”

“He’s abusing his authority as Alpha and interfering with the Wolf Council’s review process.”

“That’s why the mate bond termination hasn’t been approved yet.”

“If I don’t follow up in person, how am I supposed to end this bond for good?”

“As long as our mate bond still exists, you’ll always be the other woman.”

I deliberately twisted the knife.

“Doesn’t he love you?”

“If he loves you so much, how can he stand letting you be the other woman?”

The moment she heard that, Juliet hung up.

A smile tugged at my lips.

That foolish she-wolf had finally taken the bait.
