She Hijacked My Wedding in White? Meet the Real Vesper Behind the Veil! Chapter 03

[Didn’t Evelyn used to throw herself at Adrian?]

[I heard she was so poor in college that she couldn’t even afford to rent a formal dress.]

[Since the Sterling family doesn’t acknowledge her, what gives her the nerve to marry into the Cross family?]

[Please tell us more—what exactly happened?]

[They were practically inseparable back in college, you know! The whole school knew Adrian and Mia were a couple.]

[Then Evelyn showed up. No one knew how she managed it, but she was all over Adrian every day.]

[Isn’t this just a real-life version of “Cinderella”? Look at that wedding dress she’s wearing—it cost millions to custom-make. If she hadn’t hooked up with Adrian, could she really afford it?]

I actually burst out laughing.

Paying out of pocket?

It was clearly Adrian who made the first move back then.

During my sophomore year, I was staying up all night revising my designs in the building, and he sat waiting for me at the door with breakfast in hand.

“Evelyn, you should eat something. Your stomach can’t handle this.”

I ignored him.

The next day, he came again.

On the third day, he simply replaced my breakfast with a bowl of hot soup and placed it right next to me.

Later, it started to rain, and he stood outside the school building with the shoulders of his suit half-soaked, just to hand me an umbrella.

I said no.

He smiled. “Well, I guess I’ll just walk behind you, then?”

By then, I was already Vesper.

But no one knew.

I didn’t want anyone to come near me because of that name.

So I wore the plainest shirts, carried the oldest canvas bag, and tried to be so quiet at school that no one even noticed I was there.

But Adrian kept catching up to me time and time again.

He helped me draw, kept those annoying suitors at bay, and even after I’d turned him down many times, he still stood there in the rain and said to me:

“Evelyn, you’re the first person I’ve ever truly wanted to marry.”

How wonderful.

I almost believed it.

On the phone screen, the emcee finally seemed to remember that there was actually a bride today.

“All right, all right, that was just a warm-up. Now, let’s welcome today’s real bride—Evelyn Sterling!”

But it was Mia who opened the dressing room door first.

She was still wearing that wedding dress, with the bracelet Mrs. Cross had just given her on her wrist, smiling as if nothing had happened.

“Evelyn, why are you still sitting there? Everyone’s waiting for you.”

“Don’t be so serious—it’s your wedding day. Let’s go outside and play a little game—catch the bouquet, okay?”

“Catch the bouquet?”

“That’s right.”

She batted her eyelashes, her voice sweet to the point of cloying.

“If I catch it, Adrian will grant me one wish, no questions asked. If you catch it, I’ll give this bracelet back to you.”

She flicked her wrist, and the gold glowed a dazzling light.

That was really interesting.

You stole my wedding, wore my bracelet, and now you were using it as a prize?

Before I could say a word, she had already pulled me into the spotlight.

All eyes in the room instantly turned to me.

“Is this Evelyn? She doesn’t look like anything special.”

“Standing next to Mia, there’s just no comparison in terms of presence.”

“But Mia’s wedding dress is really beautiful—the more I look at it, the more it reminds me of Vesper’s designs.”

Mia heard this, and her smile grew even wider.

I looked up at her.

“Really?”

The smile on Mia’s face froze for a moment, then quickly turned to a look of hurt.

“Evelyn, you’re not going to take a joke like that to heart, are you? I just wanted to liven up the wedding a bit.”

Adrian immediately frowned.

“Evelyn, today has been chaotic enough. Don’t embarrass everyone.”

I looked at him and smiled. “Of course I don’t mind.”

Mia let out a sigh of relief. Adrian’s expression softened a bit, as if he had finally waited for me to come to my senses.

But the next second, I raised my hand to signal the staff to roll the portable display stand from the corner over.

The display stand was draped in red cloth.

The wheels rolled across the marble floor; the sound wasn’t loud, but it made everyone turn to look.

I stood next to the display stand, holding the edge of the red silk.

“Since it’s such a lively day today…”

“Well, I’ve got a big surprise for you, too.”
