My Alpha Fiancé Let Another She-Wolf Wear My Scent—So What? I Let His Rival Wear My Ring Chapter 05

My Alpha Fiancé Let Another She-Wolf Wear My Scent—So What? I Let His Rival Wear My Ring Chapter 05

The trip out was quiet. No drama, no looking back.

When I got to the borderlands, the pack that hired me rolled out the red carpet.

“Welcome, Miss Nightwood! Having someone with your skills join us is a serious honor!” Elder Torben Oakheart didn’t hold back on the compliments, and the pack members were all staring at me like I’d just walked in with a halo.

This was brand new territory for me.

Back with Kaelen’s pack, anytime someone tried to give me props, Kaelen’s face would go dark as hell. Nobody wanted

to deal with that, and I sure didn’t want to set him off either.

Over time, I just kind of faded into the background, only getting noticed when my name got dragged in next to

Kaelen’s.

Torben walked me over to the Alpha I’d be working under.

The wolf stuck out his hand, all polite and professional. His face rang a bell. “Miss Nightwood, I’m Alpha Aldric Greymane. Looking forward to working with you.”

Then it clicked. Years back, during the border conflicts where Kaelen had dominated as territorial champion, Aldric

had been the second-place border lord.

Since then, Aldric had been grinding nonstop-training, fighting, building his rep. Word across the territories was his strength had gotten real close to Kaelen’s by now.

I was honestly glad to be working with an Alpha like him. After the welcome feast Torben threw together for me, I got moved into the place the pack had set up.

Once I’d unpacked and settled in, I finally cracked open my phone. Dozens of missed calls and messages came pouring in, damn near froze the thing. Every single one was from Kaelen.

[What the hell do you mean, we’re done?! And who said you could just replace yourself as my liaison?]

[Sera, is this some new game you’re playing?]

[No wonder you’ve been so damn quiet. You even deleted our photo for this little performance. I really didn’t give you enough credit.]

I was scrolling through the mess when Kaelen called again. Before I could think, my finger slipped and I answered.

On the other end, he let out this breath like he’d been holding it in.

“Sera! Weren’t you all set on ignoring me? What, couldn’t keep it up anymore? You know Linnet’s been crying for days because of you? You better cut this crap out and get back here to apologize to her! Otherwise, I’m gonna have to rethink this whole marking thing.”

His voice was cold, dripping with that cocky confidence like he had me wrapped around his finger.

I laughed. “Don’t bother. Kaelen, you haven’t marked me in all these years anyway. No point starting now.” Then I hung up. I blocked his number and every message that came flying in after.

Then I pulled up my profile and posted a statement.

[Alpha Kaelen Ashfall and I only went through a bonding ceremony. He never marked me, and we are not mates. We have now officially broken up. From this point forward, we have no connection. Thanks for your concern.]

The second it went live, the comments exploded.

[Wait, WHAT?! Five years and he never marked you?!]

[He wasted five years of your life and gave you jack shit. What kind of Alpha is that?!]

[Who cares how strong he is if he’s garbage as a wolf? I’m done supporting this guy!]

Even wolves from the pack started backing me up.

[Sending you all the support, Sera. That she-wolf’s tricks are old news. Congrats on ditching that trash. Go live your

life!]

[For real! That homewrecker’s gonna get what’s coming. You go shine on your own!]

Plenty of wolves were tearing into Linnet. I appreciated the support, but I knew better-stuff like this never happens because of just one wolf.

Kaelen was the real problem.

Posting that statement felt like I’d finally cut the last thread tying me to the past.

What I didn’t expect was for the whole thing to blow up across the territorial forums. Someone who couldn’t stand it anymore leaked my statement, along with photos of Kaelen and Linnet looking real cozy, straight to the press.

As one of the top Alphas around, Kaelen had always been in the spotlight. Once the scandal hit, his reputation tanked hard, and Linnet became the target of everyone’s rage. Reporters kept reaching out to me for interviews, but I turned

them all down.

What I really didn’t see coming, though, was Kaelen trying every trick in the book to get to me again.
