Goodbye, My Beloved Alpha Chapter 04

Goodbye, My Beloved Alpha Chapter 04

I ended up riding with Lucas.

Back to Manhattan.

He talked nonstop about his plans the whole way. It was hard to stay nervous.

The interviews went well I got a job offer Found an apartment near the office

Lucas disappeared for two days Then he moved in next door

I was taking out the trash when I saw the movers hauling furniture in next door

Lucas was inside, directing everything.

What are you doing here?

‘Surprise He took the trash bag from me. I missed your cooking”

I was happy to see him, honestly. A familiar face in a new neighborhood

‘I’ll make dinner. Celebrate the move.”

We settled on hot pot.

I coughed on the first bite and reached for a drink.

“You can’t handle spicy? But you said you liked hot pot.”

‘Sorry. It’s been a long time. Out of practice.”

How long? I couldn’t remember.

I used to love it. The spicy kind. Grandmother would eat the clear broth with me.

Once,Silas was working late. The food I’d brought him had gone cold. It was snowing. I suggested we go out

I took him for hot pot.

He preferred bland food. So I got a split pot.

He frowned the whole time.

On the way home, he said. “Don’t eat that again. You smell like it for hours

So I stopped

Your body forgets how to process something if you go without it too long.

But after a few bites, I started sweating. It felt good.

Lucas did the dishes. Opened the windows. Took the trash out when he left.

Life in Manhattan was quieter than I’d expected.

The media didn’t care about a missing Luna. The pack didn’t come looking.

No one even noticed I was gone.

The only thing on the news was Silas’s new assistant. I scrolled past the paparazzi photos.

It was funny. In a sad way.

Photos of Silas bending down, letting her fix his tie.

Him opening the car door for her. Once, in the rain, she tried to hold an umbrella for him, he took it and held it over her

instead.

All that affection. Just for a pretty face.

No one had ever seen a picture of Olivia. Silas kept her hidden.

They speculated. Was I being replaced?

If I were still at Howling Wind, I’d be at home. Waiting for an Alpha who wouldn’t come.

Instead, I was busy. Work. Meetings.

And…

‘Lucas, stop leaning on me.”

I pushed his head off my shoulder.

He nudged my laptop shut.

I’m right here. A good-looking guy right in front of you. And you’re staring at an old man’s photo”

I laughed. No one had ever called Silas an ‘old man’ to his face. I’d love to have seen his reaction

I looked up. Lucas’s face had gone serious.

“That’s him, right? Silas of Howling Wind. I know him.”

I was surprised. I’d never seen Lucas at Howling Wind.

“My mom made me call him Uncle when I was a kid.

I laughed so hard I fell back against the couch.

“He’s only four years older than you-

He looks it.

Okay, fine. Silas had been running pack business since he was a kid. He always looked older than he was.

“So you’re the legendary missing Luna Clara?”

His face was suddenly close to mine. I realized my head was in his lap.

I tried to sit up, but he held me down.

‘Yeah.” I said.

“So I’m your secret affair?”

He laughed at his own joke. I punched his arm.

“Don’t say that. I’m gone. The rings are gone.”

‘I’ll call a lawyer. You can be divorced by tomorrow.”

“We don’t need a lawyer. There’s no paperwork. He never gave me a mark.”

I laughed. It felt a little sad.

‘Great. Then you can come get a marriage license with me.”
