When He Learned I Was Abused, My CEO Ex Lost It! Chapter 07

The dirty things I said plus my married-mom act kept Adrian from bothering me much for two whole weeks.

But that didn’t stop him from putting on a show at work.

One day it was a Loro Piana cashmere set, all broad shoulders and narrow waist, rich-old-money style.

The next day it was a black shirt with three buttons undone,

just enough collarbone showing for that dangerous bad-boy

look.

A few days later, he switched to sporty golden retriever

energy.

Gray sweatpants.

For one reason only.

To make certain things look bigger.

He came to our break room five or six times a day.

Could I ask why?

No.

Would I ask why?

Also no.

Thanks to him, I hadn’t hit my daily water goal even once lately.

Maggie slid over in her chair again, looking relieved.

“Judy, you’re saved!”

I wasn’t saved.

I was halfway dead.

Adrian knowing my address meant he could rush upstairs at

any minute and deliver a full combo attack to my imaginary husband.

And if he ever found out I didn’t have a husband at all…

Every trashy melodrama I’d ever read flashed before my eyes.

What a disaster.

Just when I was thinking about moving overnight, the doorbell rang.

I looked through the peephole.

Adrian stood outside, face dark, baseball bat in hand.

“Shit.”

I immediately turned off every light in the apartment and pretended I wasn’t home.

He knocked a few times, then drawled,

“You just said shit. I heard you.”

Me: “Shit.”

I opened the door with the deadest face possible.

His face was stormy.

“Where’s your husband?”

“What do you want?”

“I’m here to save you.”

His gaze dropped to the old cat scratches on my arm, and his eyes turned even colder.

Then he shoved past me, carrying the bat, and stormed inside.

He searched the whole apartment.

Found nobody.

Only one puffed-up fat cat glaring at him.

He narrowed his eyes.

“So the husband and kid aren’t home again?”

“That’s weird.”

Then he turned and stepped closer, suspicion all over his face.

“You’re supposedly married with a kid, and the kid’s barely

over one, so why are your husband and child never home…”

“Meow.”

Dabao let out a vicious low growl.

Adrian suddenly smiled.

Then his teasing eyes landed on me.

“That one-year-old son of yours isn’t this fat cat, is it?”

“And what, is there another cat or dog somewhere named

Husband?”

…I had nothing to say.
