The room went dead silent. 

Kael spoke slowly. “Who hurt you?” 

“Lila,” she sobbed. 

“When?” Kael asked, his voice cold. 

“Thirty minutes ago,” she said, confused by his tone. “Where 

are you? Please come home. I’m scared.” 

He closed his eyes. “Elara. Lila is dead.” 

The line went silent. 

His voice was icy. “She was in the emergency room thirty 

minutes ago. How could she have hurt you?” 

The line went silent again. 

Five hours later, they returned to the estate. 

Elara ran to them, redeyed. 

“Dad, is it true? Is Lila really gone?” 

Kael ignored her. 

She turned to Elias, pouting. “Dad, were you with them? Did you hear everything?” 

She started crying again. “I’m sorry I lied. I was just scared you’d leave me.” 

She always got away with tears. They thought she’d suffered 

too much overseas. 

They’d found her eating out of a trash can. 

In their eyes, she was more hurt, more fragile, more deserving 

than I’d ever been. 

So after Elara apologized over and over, the four guardians all 

let out heavy breaths and comforted her, telling her not to cry 

anymore. 

They forgave her at once. 

Kael spoke flatly. “It wasn’t your fault. Lila traumatized you.” 

They decided to hold a small funeral for me. 

They’d raised me, after all. 

And Mom had once saved them. 

Almost no one came. 

I’d been locked away for years, no friends, no contact. 

I watched quietly. 

The system spoke. “Lila, it’s time to leave.” 

My heart raced. I was finally going to Mom. 

I stepped forward, but the system stopped me. 

“Wait. I’m not letting them get away with this. Give me a 

minute.” 

A tall, male figure materialized in front of me. 

It was Jax–the system, in human form. 

He walked toward the four men and spoke quietly. They stiffened, then followed him. 

I trailed behind. 

They left the cemetery and returned to the estate. Finally, they stopped outside Elara’s bedroom door. 

They exchanged confused looks. Then they heard sounds from inside. 

“Baby, don’t leave marks. The four of them will notice,” Elara’s voice purred. 

“I can’t believe you dared sneak me in,” a man laughed. 

“Turns out that little bitch is dead.” 

The four men froze. They recognized that voice. 

It was the thug who’d attacked Elara three years ago. He’d testified that I’d ordered him. 

They’d tried to send him to prison. Elara had begged them not to, saying she wanted to forget. 

Now it all made sense. 

“Good she’s dead,” the man panted heavily. “No more lies to keep up. Those four are so stupid they believed everything we said. She was terrified of me. How could she dare give me any orders?” 

Elara giggled. “Mom said they were easy to fool. If she hadn’t faked her death and called Kael, we’d still be stuck overseas.” 

Their laughter cut through the air. 

After about three minutes, Silas kicked the door open. The 

other three stormed in after him. 

Screams, shouts, and cries mingled together. 

Jax turned to me. “Satisfied?” 

I nodded. “You did this on purpose.” 

“Hell yes I did,” he snapped. “They hurt your mom. Then they hurt you. Worthless pieces of trash. Want to go watch them ruin her?” 

I shook my head and tugged his sleeve. “Take me to Mom. Please.” 

He sighed. “Fine.” 

He waved a hand. A black hole opened in front of us. 

I stepped through. 

I heard them shouting my name. 

“Lila! Come back!” 

I didn’t look back.
