He Could See My Comments, I Used Them To Tease Him Chapter 09

My head stayed foggy the whole day, and I didn’t get a chance until the next afternoon after school.

Rain poured down outside in sheets. Most students had already left.

I packed up slowly.

Then a figure stopped in front of me.

Silas’s eyes were dark, his face pale.

“Do you bring an umbrella?”

I put my umbrella back in my bag and shook my head with a grin.

“Then… can we walk together? There’s something

I need to tell you.”

The umbrella blocked most of my view. He was tall, and to keep it over both of us his head nearly

grazed the ribs.

Raindrops splashed into little firework shapes at

our feet. Neither of us said anything.

Then a gust of wind hit and tilted the umbrella.

Without thinking, he angled it further toward me.

“Yvette.”

His voice came from beside me–a little rough, but

warm.

“I’ve thought it through.”

I pursed my lips, ready to tell him he’d taken so long I’d already lost interest–except a small flicker

of hope crept in against my will.

The next second, he said, “I’m willing to be your

side piece… your second choice.”

The rain seemed to seep straight into my brain.

My mind went completely blank.

“What?”

He pressed his lips together, a mix of struggle and hurt flashing through his eyes, the rims turning

faintly red, but he pushed on, steady.

“I’ve never been in a relationship. This doesn’t feel

right to me–I think you should break up first, and

then we can be together.”

“But I heard he’s your childhood sweetheart. The

day he came to pick you up, you were about to

confess your feelings to me, weren’t you? And the

moment he showed up, you dropped me.”

I tried to piece together what he was saying.

He took a small breath, his brow furrowing tight.

“So I figured you’d never leave him. If I got with.

you, I’d probably end up as the other guy. And that

just sits wrong with me.”

“I said I’d think about it. I never said no. I never

said I wouldn’t do it…”

“But you moved on to that new transfer student so

fast–was it because he doesn’t mind being the

other guy?”

“I saw it yesterday–your boyfriend and him, both

there at the same time, getting along just fine.”

“I thought about it all night. I don’t think I can fit

into your circle. It’s strange to me… but I like you.”

My mouth was practically hanging open.

What on earth was he talking about?

“Those comments–I know they were you.”

“But then you stopped saying all those funny

things. Once the transfer kid showed up, you didn’t even use it for memos anymore.”

“It’s been eating at me. This is the first time I’ve

ever liked a girl, and she already has a boyfriend. Now you have two, and I’m stuck fighting for third place.”

“I thought about it all night. If I don’t agree now, I might not even make third. Yesterday when the class monitor was talking to you…”

My brain was about to short–circuit.

“Wait.”

He obediently shut his mouth. The wind tousled

my hair, and my thoughts along with it.

“I don’t have a boyfriend.”

The air went quiet, his brow still tightly knit.

“I heard about it when I transferred here. And I… I

saw you two kiss.”

My eyes went wide.

Who?

Who was kissing?
