I stared coldly at Chloe.

Remembering what Lily had told me, I felt my anger rise.

“Forget the caskets for a minute. I have a question for you.”

“Did you sleep with Chloe and get stuck together? Did you need surgery to separate you?”

Ryan hadn’t expected me to come right out and say it.

He froze. Behind me, the men who’d carried the caskets looked stunned.

My husband had betrayed me, but I wasn’t going to play the doormat.

“Who told you?”

It took him a while to get the words out.

“Did you forget your doctor is my friend?”

“You don’t even have cancer. The only reason you needed surgery was that disgusting stunt.”

“And now I find out you’ve been lying to me all this time.”

Chloe saw how my questions cornered Ryan. Even the men who’d carried the caskets were laughing at him.

She stepped in front of him and lashed out at me.

“Emma, can you use your brain for once?”

“You don’t air your dirty laundry in public! How could you humiliate your husband in front of everyone?”

She should have kept her mouth shut. Hearing her voice made me want to hit her.

One punch sent her to the floor.

“If you’re willing to do something that disgusting, why are you afraid of people hearing about it?”

She was wearing my pajamas, and the thought of her getting them dirty made my skin crawl. I slapped her across the face.

“Emma, stop!”

“Hit her again and I’m calling the police.”

My hand still raised, I turned to Ryan.

“Go ahead.”

I curled my hand into a fist and brought it down. Chloe screamed, and Ryan actually did it—he called the police.

I stayed right where I was, perfectly calm.

He lowered his phone after the call.

“Maybe this will finally teach you some sense.”

Teach me? I gave a cold laugh.

“It’s about time I taught you a lesson.”

“Don’t bother coming to the office tomorrow.”

“You’ve been sitting in that chair so long you’ve forgotten who it belongs to.”

“You spent years enjoying the title of boss, and all you learned was how to sneak around with another woman.”

Ryan glared at me, growing angrier with every word.

He raised his hand to hit me in the face, but a startled voice came from outside.

“Oh my God! Are those caskets?”

“Emma? What’s happened?”

“Why are there caskets at your front door?”

We both knew that voice.

Ryan froze, then whipped his head toward the door.
